The 4K disc will include Dolby Vision and HDR10, with both the 4K and Blu-ray offering English 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio and LPCM 2.0 stereo audio, as well as optional English subtitles. And all the Blu-rays will be Region-A compatible.
In terms of extras, the TV Version will feature audio commentary by Max Evry, author of A Masterpiece in Disarray: David Lynch’s Dune, an Oral History. You’ll also get 8 featurettes (Beyond Imagination: Merchandising Dune, Prophecy Fulfilled: Scoring Dune, Destination Dune, Impressions of Dune, Designing Dune, Dune FX, Dune Models & Miniatures, and Dune Costumes), an interview with production coordinator Golda Offenheim, deleted scenes with introduction by Raffaella de Laurentiis, an additional deleted scene with introduction by actor Molly Wryn, an interview with actor Paul Smith, and an interview with make-up effects artist Christopher Tucker.
What’s more, all of this comes in Limited Edition “Sandbox” packaging that features the film’s poster art with a tempered glass liquid sand panel. Plus you’ll get a 27” x 40” poster, a reprint of the 1984 comic adaptation, a 60-page hardback book, 6 art cards, a 3D lenticular hardcase that holds the discs, and a custom PVC display case. The street date is July 30th.
Here’s what the package looks like (click here or on the image to pre-order directly from Imprint)…
In terms of what’s NOT included (compared to the previous 4K + BD editions), missing from the Arrow Video release are the audio commentaries by Paul M. Sammon and Mike White, the trailers and TV spots, and image galleries (plus the swag).
And missing from the deluxe 7-disc Koch German box set are the soundtrack CD, the Spicediver Cut Blu-ray, the interviews with Jürgen Prochnow and special effects artist Giannetto De Rossi, Sean Young’s Super 8 footage, and 4 audio archive features (plus the swag).
So the Koch German release is definitely the most comprehensive. But this Imprint set is still a great opportunity to get the films, most of the extras, and the extended documentary in Region A Blu-ray.
In other news today, Blue Underground has announced the TBA October 4K Ultra HD release of Gary Sherman’s Raw Meat (1972) (aka Death Line). The exact street date will be announced at a later date.
And finally today, our friends at Arrow Video have just unveiled their August slate, which includes a trio of UK only titles—Don Siegel’s The Shootist (1976) on Blu-ray, Michael Mann’s Thief (1981) in 4K Ultra HD, and Peter Manoogian’s Enemy Territory (1987) on Blu-ray. In addition, there’s a US and Canada title—Marcus Nispel’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) in 4K UHD. And finally, there’s a trio of UK, US, and Canada titles—Jennifer Reeder’s Perpetrator (2023) on Blu-ray, Wolfgang Petersen’s Poseidon (2006) in 4K UHD, and Jonathan Liebesman’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (2006) in 4K UHD.
Poseidon, as you may recall, is a Warner Bros. title—as we’ve reported here on The Bits and in more detail on our Digital Bits Patreon recently (for our subscribers, click here), Arrow has signed a significant new catalog licensing deal with the studio.
Here’s what all of these titles look like (see below). Click here for Arrow US and here for Arrow UK for all the details and dates…
That’s all for now. See you back here on Monday!
