Sony reveals So I Married an Axe Murder 4K, plus Imprint’s August Blu-ray slate has Film Focus box sets on Jennifer Connelly, Jessica Lange & more

So I Married an Axe Murderer (4K Ultra HD)

We’ve got three more new disc reviews for you today...

First, I’ve taken a look at Apple TV’s For All Mankind: Season One, as released on Region B Blu-ray in the UK by Dazzler Media. This is one of my favorite series—and alternate history of NASA’s space program in a world where the Soviets beat America to the Moon in the 1960s, co-created by Ron Moore of Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek: The Next Generation, and Outlander, which starts as a Mad Men-like period drama and gradually moved into the territory of science fiction with each new season. Dazzler’s release is the only place you can get the series on physical media, and I’ll be reviewing Season Two on Blu-ray shortly as well.

Also, Dennis has reviewed Mike Hodges’ I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead (2003) and Bernardo Bertolucci’s Little Buddha (1993) on Blu-ray from Imprint Films and Via Vision in Australia.

Speaking of Imprint Films, the company has just unveiled its August Blu-ray slate, which is set to include the following... Film Focus: Jennifer Connelly—which includes Career Opportunities (1991), Waking the Dead (2000), and House of Sand and Fog (2003)—Film Focus: Jessica Lange—which includes Frances (1982), Crimes of the Heart (1986), Music Box (1989), and Losing Isaiah (1995)—Alan Rudolph’s Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle (1994), Karen Moncrieff’s Blue Car (2002), and Steven Zaillian’s Searching for Bobby Fischer (1993). The big release news this afternoon is that Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has just set Thomas Schlamme’s So I Married an Axe Murderer (1993) for release on 4K Ultra HD on 7/25. The Mike Myers comedy has been mastered from a 4K scan of the original camera negative for its 30th anniversary and will include a new Dolby Atmos sound mix, along with theatrical trailers and 30+ minutes of never-before-seen deleted scenes. You can see the cover artwork above left.

Also today, Kino Lorber Studio Classics has just revealed the 7/18 Blu-ray release of Henry Hathaway’s Nevada Smith (1966), followed by the 7/24 release of Anthony Mann’s A Dandy in Aspic (1968) on the format. Also coming on 7/18 is the Audie Murphy Collection II, which includes Alfred E. Green’s Sierra (1950), Ray Enright’s Kansas Raiders (1950), and George Marshall’s Destry (1954).

And we’re hearing from our retail sources that the new Fast X sequel to The Fast and the Furious will likely arrive on disc in August.

All right, it’s been a rather slow week here at the site news-wise, but I’ve personally been recording from a bout with COVID, so that’s worked just fine for me. I’m about 80% back to normal and expect to be fully recovered early next week. And that should also be good timing, because I expect the pace of new title announcements to pick up a little next week as well.
