One last Warner note: We’ve learned from multiple sources now that the version of Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining coming to 4K Ultra HD on 10/1 will be the same 144-minute cut of the film we’ve seen previously on disc. There was an error on the press release that suggested a 146-minute run time, which led some to speculate that the film would include the epilogue ending (which took place at a hospital) that was cut by Kubrick at the last minute. We figured this was highly unlikely and, indeed, this is not the case. So adjust your expectations accordingly.
In other news, all three of Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story films are now available in 4K Ultra HD from Amazon.com. They’re due on 6/4, just as we predicted months ago, and you can pre-order them here...
Are there any music fans out there? Eagle Rock Entertainment is releasing Stewart Copeland’s documentary The Police: Everyone Stares – The Police Inside Out on Blu-ray on 5/31. The film had previously only been available on DVD.
Universal and Focus Films have set the science fiction thriller Captive State for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 6/11.
And Universal will also release Hotel Mumbai on Blu-ray and DVD on 6/18.
Finally today, most of you will be aware that HBO’s Game of Thrones airs its series finale on Sunday night. But the cable network has a couple of good new series coming up this year, including a new series version of Watchmen, and an adaptation of Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials novel trilogy. The network has just released a new teaser trailer for the latter, and I have to say... it looks pretty great, much truer in tone and texture to the novels than the misguided New Line film adaptation of the first book (The Golden Compass) a few years back. Here it is...
All right, we’ll leave you with a look a the cover artwork for some of the titles mentioned above and more, with Amazon.com pre-order links (and remember, anytime you order literally anything from Amazon after clicking through to them from one of our links, you’re helping to support our work here at The Bits and we really do appreciate it)...
