Lionsgate has announced Christian Gudegast’s Den of Thieves 2: Pantera (2025) for Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD release on 3/4, along with a Den of Thieves Collection in 4K Steelbook that same day that includes the original Den of Thieves (2018) as well.
Gila Films has set David Weaver’s The Last Frankenstein (2021) for release on limited edition Blu-ray exclusively from DiabolikDVD. The disc will include an exclusive slipcover with art by HagCult. The disc will feature a pair of audio commentaries with the director (including one with the producer), the Reanimating The Last Frankenstein featurette, deleted scenes, outtakes, a gallery, and an Easter egg.
Paramount has just set Yellowstone: Season 5, Part 2 for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 5/27.
Speaking of Paramount, the studio has also just upgraded digital versions of Howard Hawks’ Hatari! (1962) and Amy Heckerling’s Clueless (1995) to 4K on all the major streaming platforms. The former was released in 4K disc by Kino Lorber Studio Classics, licensed from Paramount. So it’s possible that a 4K disc of Clueless could be forthcoming as well, probably from Paramount directly.
Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment has announced Shameless: The Complete Series for DVD only release on 3/18, which marks the first ever release of the series on that format. All 134 episodes will be included.
Are there any Gerry Anderson fans in the house? Anderson Entertainment in the UK is releasing an 8-disc Space Precinct: 30th Anniversary Edition on Blu-ray on 4/11.
Flicker Alley has set a new restoration of Erich von Stroheim and Rupert Julian’s Merry-Go-Round (1923) for Blu-ray release on 4/1.
And coming to Blu-ray on 4/1 as well from Mill Creek Entertainment is Icons Unearthed: Bond.
Finally, in other news today, our friends at Media Play News have just reported exactly what we’ve been saying on social media over the weekend, which is that Sony’s recent announcement (last week on 1/23) that they were ending production of recordable Blu-ray Disc media (as well as MiniDiscs and MiniDV cassettes) in February has nothing to do with Blu-ray Disc production overall—this is happening only in Japan and not globally. Blank media has long been a huge business in Japan, where people often record their favorite TV shows on BD-R discs. But streaming has really reduced the demand for this. No other aspects of Sony’s Blu-ray business are impacted. So all of you can relax; Sony is not getting out of the Blu-ray business.
That’s all for now. Back tomorrow with more.
Stay tuned!
