The big news today is that Warner Home Video has just officially set Mad Max: Fury Road for Blu-ray and DVD release on 9/1, with the digital release set for 8/11. There will be a Blu-ray 3D Combo Pack for $44.95, a Blu-ray Combo Pack for $35.99, and 2-disc DVD for $28.98. All will include the theatrical edition of the film. Extras will include 6 featurettes (Maximum Fury: Filming Fury Road, Mad Max: Fury on Four Wheels, The Road Warriors: Max and Furiosa, The Tools of the Wasteland, The Five Wives: So Shiny, So Chrome, and Fury Road: Crash & Smash), plus deleted scenes. Boy, I wish there were a LOT more extras than that, but that’s what to expect.
Warner is also releasing a Mad Max 4-Film Blu-ray Anthology on 9/1 (SRP $89.98), that will include Mad Max (1979), The Road Warrior (1981), Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985), and Mad Max: Fury Road on Blu-ray disc, plus the documentary Madness of Max on DVD, and Mad Max Anthology trading cards.
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is releasing John Carpenter’s Christine on Blu-ray on 9/29 (SRP $19.99). No word on special features but it’s likely to be movie-only (or include only those extras that may have been on the previous DVD release).
Lionsgate is releasing Halloween VI: The Curse of Michael Myers – The Unrated Producer’s Cut on Blu-ray on 9/15 (SRP $9.99).
Universal will release Pitch Perfect 2 on Blu-ray and DVD on 9/22.
Anchor Bay has set Aquarius: The Complete First Season for Blu-ray and DVD release on 9/15 (SRP $59.99 and $49.98). Bonus features will include webisodes, the First Look: Aquarius featurette, and all episodes will be “exclusive extended versions”.
IFC Films has set Welcome to New York Blu-ray and DVD release on 8/11, followed by 5 to 7 on both formats on 8/18.
And Warner Archive has just made available Showdown in Little Tokyo (1991) on Blu-ray, along with Eskimo (1933), The Dick Foran Western Collection (1935-37 – 12 films in all), and the Wallace Beery/Marjorie Main titles Barnacle Bill (1941), The Bugle Sounds (1941), Jackass Mail (1942), Bad Bascomb (1946), and Big Jack (1949) on DVD.
Here’s a bunch of new cover artwork (with Amazon pre-order links if available) for many of the BD titles above and more...
Back tomorrow with lots more, including some new reviews. Stay tuned!
