We’ve got a quick update for you this morning with word from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment that the long-delayed Blu-ray release of Peter Jackson’s The Beatles: Get Back documentary has finally been rescheduled for 7/12, as we first reported a couple of days ago.

The title had originally been set to street on 2/8, but was pulled at the last minute due to an unspecified problem with the audio mix (after review discs had already been dispatched to members of the press, and after some discs had briefly made it to retail shelves as well).

The error required the discs to be corrected, but the packed replication schedule these days—not to mention the sheer number of discs that needed to be produced—meant a long delay. [Read on here...]

Nevertheless, Variety has now confirmed the new 7/12 street date, so the long wait for fans will soon be over. You can read more about this here.

And while some of you have asked us why there’s no 4K release currently planned, the reason is that one doesn’t make much sense. The footage was originally shot on 16 mm film, which doesn’t have a lot of resolution, and it was heavily digitally processed to boot. So 4K resolution wouldn’t really enhance the image detail. About the only benefit image-wise would be HDR. Just FYI.

In other news, we’ve got a look at the final 4K cover artwork for Michael Bay’s Ambulance from Universal, which is now available for pre-order on Amazon. You can see the art below. The street date is expected to be 6/14. The title will include Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio, with extras including 6 behind-the-scenes featurettes (Bayhem, Aerial Assault, Chase Capitol of the World, Pedal to the Metal, Finding Ambulance, and A Tribute to First Responders).

And we’ve learned from retail sources that Warner’s Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore is expected to street on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K on 6/28. We expect an official announcement from the studio soon.

Also here at The Bits today, we have three new Blu-ray reviews for you to enjoy from Tim, including his thoughts on Ruggero Deodato’s Raiders of Atlantis (1983) from Severin, Tom Gries’ Breakout (1975) from Kino Lorber Studio Classics, and Robert Deubel’s Girls Night Out (1982, aka The Scaremaker) from Arrow Video.

Finally, before we go today, all of those new August Criterion Blu-ray titles are now available for pre-order on Amazon. So here they are (lick on the covers below to visit their respective pre-order pages)…

Daddy Longlegs (Criterion Blu-ray Disc) Frownland (Criterion Blu-ray Disc) Hotel du Nord (Criterion Blu-ray Disc)

Buck and the Preacher (Criterion Blu-ray Disc) Faya Dayi (Criterion Blu-ray Disc) Ambulance (4K Ultra HD)

As always, stay tuned...
