That’s a month later than originally indicated by retail sources, but still—it’s great to see this long-overlooked title finally getting released in 4K, not to mention remastered Blu-ray too.
All three will include a new audio commentary with Robbins joined by filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, rare Screen Test footage, 6 all-new documentary featurettes (including The Slayer of All Dragons, Welcome to Cragganmore, A Long Way to Urland, Vermithrax Pejorative, Into the Lake of Fire, and The Final Battle), as well as the film’s original theatrical trailer.
All will include a Digital Copy code, along with object-based/lossless Dolby Atmos sound. The 4Ks will add Dolby Vision HDR as well.
We’ve shared the cover artwork here at The Bits previously, but here it is once again (note that clicking on the images will take you to their respective Amazon.com pre-order pages...
A few more quick bits of news and title announcements this morning...
Universal has announced Syfy’s Resident Alien: Season Two for release on Blu-ray on 2/28.
Lionsgate has just set Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale (2022) for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital on 3/14. Brendan Fraser is nominated for a Best Actor Oscar this year for his role in the film.
Lionsgate has also set Mary Nighy’s Alice, Darling (2022) for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital on 3/15. The film stars Anna Kendrick.
Kino Lorber Studio Classics has announced Jim McBride’s The Big Easy (1987) for Blu-ray release on 4/4. Look for the disc to include a new director’s commentary in addition to the theatrical trailer.
On the 4K front, be advised that Paramount has begun upgrading Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow (1999) and James L. Brooks’ Terms of Endearment (1983) to 4K on all the usual streaming services. So it seems likely that both titles are forthcoming on physical 4K Ultra HD as well. The former is currently in 4K on Vudu, while the latter is on iTunes, but you can bet they’ll be upgraded everywhere very soon.
And while this isn’t directly related to physical media, it’s worth mentioning in the event you missed it yesterday: New DC studio chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran have just unveiled the first ten film and TV projects that make up Chapter 1 of their new/rebooted DC Universe, which collectively is being called Gods and Monsters. They’ve also announced that additional and stand-alone films will be produced as well under the label DC Elseworlds, including sequels to Matt Reeves’ The Batman and Todd Phillips’ Joker.
Gotta say, I’m actually excited for this. I dig the new plan, I dig the focus on writers and polished scripts. And as someone who loved Man of Steel, I’m betting that Henry Cavill will eventually return to play Superman again in a Elseworlds movie. Superman: Red Son anyone? Anyway, all the details can be found here and here on Variety.
That’s all for now! Stay tuned...
