We’re starting today with three more new disc reviews here at The Bits, including…

Tim’s thoughts on Richard Fleischer’s Soylent Green (1973) in 4K Ultra HD from Arrow Video, as well as Teruo Ishii’s Bohachi Bushido: Code of the Forgotten Eight (1973) in 4K Ultra HD from Mondo Macabro.

And Stuart’s look at Kon Ichikawa’s Ten Women in Black (1961) on Blu-ray from Daiei via Radiance Films in the UK.

As always, watch for more reviews soon!

Now then… the big news announcement today is that Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has officially set Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey (2026) for release on Blu-ray, DVD, 4K Ultra HD, 4K Steelbook, 4K Limited Edition Giftset, and Digital on 11/17. As expected, the film will be presented in a 1.78:1 aspect ratio that maximizes the IMAX experience for the home entertainment environment.

The 4K package will be a 3-disc set including the film in 4K and Blu-ray, as well as a Blu-ray bonus disc. The Odyssey will be included in 4K on a 100GB disc with HDR10 high dynamic range and audio in 5.1 English DTS-HD Master Audio format, as well as French Canadian and Latin American Spanish each in 5.1 DTS. Subtitles will be available in English, French Canadian, and Latin American Spanish.

Nolan has personally curated what is essentially a 12-part, behind-the-scenes Blu-ray documentary on the making of the film that includes Plotting a Course, Icons, The Widest Window, On Location, The Horse, The Fall of Troy, Ithaca, Battle Ready, Apparent Magic, The Sea People, The Score, and Bringing It Home.[Read on here...]

What’s more, additional features including the IMAX Exclusive Prologue, The Journey of Film on The Odyssey, James Blake, Travis Scott, and Ludwig Göransson’s When I’m Home music video, and theatrical trailers will also be available on the physical media SKUs only—not on Digital. Here’s what the 4K Steelbook looks like (and you can see the regular 4K SKU above left)…

And here are the relevant Amazon pre-order links: Blu-ray, 4K Ultra HD, 4K Steelbook, 4K Limited Edition Giftset.

In other news today, Lionsgate Limited has confirmed that a new 10th Anniversary 4K special edition of Damien Chazelle’s La La Land (2016) will be released on 11/24. In addition to the legacy extras, this edition will include a new retrospective feature: Here’s to the Fools Who Dream. The 4K disc will also include Dolby Vision HDR for the first time.

Also newly announced by Lionsgate for 4K Steelbook release here in the States is Paul King’s Paddington (2015), due to street on 11/10. This includes a new mini documentary with the filmmaker, plus both Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio.

Lionsgate is releasing Jean-François Richet’s Mutiny (2026) on Blu-ray, DVD, 4K Ultra HD, and 4K Steelbook on 11/3 as well.

Meanwhile, Studio Canal Classics (in the UK) and Cinedigm exclusively via Amazon (here in the States) will be releasing Guillermo del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth (2006) in 4K Ultra HD Collector’s Edition format in early 2027 (the exact physical media street dates are still TBA, but the film returns to theaters briefly on 10/30). This is a new full 4K restoration of the film from the original 35mm negative by Company 3 and supervised by del Toro, complete with an all-new Dolby Atmos mix. Interestingly, the film has also been converted to 3D for theatrical presentation in that format by SDFX Studios (though per the director, there are no current plans for a Blu-ray 3D release on disc). Watch for physical release details in the weeks and months ahead.

Here’s some good news: Paramount has just announced another 4K Ultra HD catalog title for release before the end of the year: Taylor Hackford’s An Officer and a Gentleman (1982). It’ll have Dolby Vision HDR and DTS-HD MA audio. Watch for additional details and the street date to be revealed soon.

Our friends at Synapse Films have revealed a new Limited Edition 4K UHD of James Muro’s Street Trash (1987) for release on 12/7. It will include Dolby Vision HDR, 5.1 DTS-HD MA audio, a pair of audio commentaries, The Meltdown Memoirs feature-length documentary, the original 16mm short film that inspired the movie, delete scenes, interviews with writer/producer Roy Frumkes and star Jane Arakawa, the anniversary cast Q&A, trailers and teasers, and more.

And finally today, following up on our report from last Thursday (see our coverage here): I’ve confirmed with Disney that John McTiernan’s Die Hard (1988) will still include its high dynamic range in HDR10 only when the title is reissued on 4K Steelbook on 12/1. What’s more, Renny Harlin’s Die Hard 2 (1990) and McTiernan’s Die Hard with a Vengeance (1995) are also now confirmed to include HDR10 only—no Dolby Vision. Adjust your plans accordingly. (Personally, we’re just glad to be getting these titles on 4K disc period, though we understand some of you will be upset by the lack of DV here.)

That’s all for now! Stay tuned…
