In announcement news today, Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment has revealed that the Amazon original series Fallout: Season One is coming to Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 7/8. The 4K will be released as a limited edition 4K Ultra HD Steelbook exclusively at Amazon.com. Note that the 4K will include HDR10 high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos audio. [Read on here...]

And Tim’s thoughts on Shane Black’s The Nice Guys (2016) in 4K Ultra HD from Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment.

Now then... in release news today, we’ve got exclusive details on the next pair of Lionsgate Limited 4K Ultra HD Steelbook titles, due to become available in May! Look for the studio to release Breck Eisner’s The Crazies (2010) and Matthew Vaughn’s Kick-Ass (2010) on 5/13! Both will include Dolby Vision HDR and new Dolby Atmos mixes, and they’ll both be released on 100GB discs. Each will also include new and legacy special features! [Read on here...]

Heads up, Bits readers! Our friends at Lionsgate are about to launch two new 4K Ultra HD Steelbook titles on their Lionsgate Limited direct-to-consumer web store: Paul Verhoeven’s Basic Instinct (1992) and Abel Ferrara’s King of New York (1990)!

Both will be released on 100GB for maximum video quality. Both will feature Dolby Vision HDR. Both will include English 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio along with the Original Theatrical Stereo mixes.

In terms of special features, Basic Instinct will include bonus content from the previous Blu-ray edition, as well as extras that haven’t appeared since VHS, LaserDisc, and DVD. Note that Basic Instinct will also feature the same 4K master released by StudioCanal (including the same color grade, because that was director approved).

Among the features are audio commentary with director Paul Verhoeven and cinematographer Jan de Bont, a second commentary with journalist Camille Paglia, and the 1993 commentary with Verhoeven, an Introduction by Sharon Stone, the 1993 Introduction with Paul Verhoeven—two featurettes new in the US, including Basic Instinct: Sex, Death & Stone and An Unending Story: Scoring Basic Instinct—3 more legacy featurettes (A Conversation with Sharon Stone, Blonde Poison: The Making of Basic Instinct, and Cleaning up Basic Instinct), 3 Storyboard Comparisons, Original Screen Tests for Sharon Stone and Jeanne Tripplehorn, the 2021 4K Trailer, the Theatrical Trailer, the Director’s Cut Trailer, and a TV Spot. I’ve turned in my thoughts on Quentin Tarantino’s long awaited Kill Bill: Volume 1 (2003) and Kill Bill: Volume 2 (2004) 4K Steelbooks from Lionsgate Limited, as well as their reissue of his Reservoir Dogs (1992) in 4K Steelbook. (And don’t forget my review of Lionsgate Limited’s Jackie Brown 4K Steelbook from earlier this week as well.)

Dennis has taken a look at Stephen Frears’ The Grifters (1990) on Blu-ray from the Criterion Collection, as well as Bob Rafelson’s Mountains on the Moon (1990) on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics.

Stuart has offered his thoughts on Terence Young’s Bloodline (1979) on Blu-ray from Vinegar Syndrome, as well as Jean Aurel’s Les Femmes (1969) on Blu-ray from Kino Classics and StudioCanal.

Tim has reviewed Russ Meyer’s Supervixens (1975) in 4K Ultra HD from Severin Films.

And Stephen has given the complete In the Line of Duty I-IV Blu-ray box set a look from 88 Films.

I’ve also gotten my hands on Lionsgate’s new Quentin Tarantino Lionsgate Limited 4K Steelbooks, and I’ll have a review of each of them very soon, starting with Jackie Brown (1997) later today. To give you a tease, the new 4K presentations are terrific, particularly Jackie Brown which is a full 4K scan of original camera negative. But more on those soon.

Now then, as I noted a moment ago, we’ve got great breaking news to report today, starting with the fact that Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment has just made Miloš Forman’s Amadeus official for release in 4K Ultra HD on 2/25. [Read on here...]

Heads up, Digital Bits readers…

We’ve learned that Lionsgate is about to announce the 4K Ultra HD Steelbook release of Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill: Volumes 1 & 2 (2003/2004) along with Jackie Brown (1997).

All three titles should appear for pre-order on their new Lionsgate Limited direct-to-consumer website sometime early tomorrow.

Jackie Brown stars Pam Grier as a flight attendant who smuggles money into the US from Mexico for a small-time crime boss, and who is then used as bait by the police to catch him. The film is based on Elmore Leonard’s 1992 novel Rum Punch.

Kill Bill: Volumes 1 & 2 are Tarantino’s martial arts actioners and an homage to the Shaw Brothers, Toshiya Fujita’s Lady Snowblood (1972), and exploitation cinema. It stars Uma Thurman as a woman who vows to get revenge upon the assassins who tried to kill her and her unborn child. [Read on here...]
