Mulan 4K, new Kino Lorber Studio Classics titles, Gamera update, Psycho replacement disc update & more
Afternoon, folks. We’ve got a few things for you today to close out the week.
First up, we have a trio of new Blu-ray reviews...
Tim has posted his thoughts on Scott Beck and Bryan Woods’ Haunt (2019) from Ronin Flix.
And Dennis has taken a look at Jan de Bont’s The Haunting (1999) from the Paramount Presents line, as well as Herbert Ross’ The Secret of My Success (1987) on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics.
I’m also about to get my hands on a pretty significant Q4 4K Ultra HD release later today, so (with luck) I’ll be working on a review of the title over the weekend.
No, it’s not Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit, but let’s just say winter is near. So watch for an update over the next few days. [Read on here...]

Warner makes Full Metal Jacket official for 4K, plus StudioCanal bows Breathless in Ultra HD & Arrow’s Flash Gordon 4K reviewed
Afternoon, folks! Today’s update is a quick one, but we’ve got a couple good things for you.
Arrow’s release is a 2 disc set with Flash Gordon in 4K on one disc and the Life After Flash documentary on the other. Studio Canal’s UK release is more elaborate and I’ll be working on a review of that over the weekend, so watch for that here at The Bits on Monday.
Meanwhile, Warner has finally made Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket official for release on 4K Ultra HD and Digital on 9/22. As was the case with 2001: A Space Odyssey and The Shining, the film has been remastered in 4K from the original 35mm camera negative under the supervision of Kubrick’s longtime personal assistant, Leon Vitali. The presentation will include HDR10 high dynamic range along with the existing English 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack. [Read on here...]

Ghost in the Shell 4K official, Criterion’s Essential Fellini, Warner follow-up, and Disney responds
All right, so... I’ve got some interesting follow up on our Disney and Warner news from the past few days.
First though, we’ve got another review for you and more announcement news...
Tim has just turned in his thoughts on Steve Beck’s Thir13en Ghosts (2001), coming soon to Collector’s Edition Blu-ray from Scream Factory. Check that out here.
In release news, Lionsgate has just officially announced the 4K Ultra HD and Digital 4K release of Mamoru Oshii’s landmark anime Ghost in the Shell (1995) on 9/8, as expected. The 4K presentation will include Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio (in both English and Japanese, along with the original Japanese 2.0 LPCM audio), as well as both new and legacy special edition material. The Goonies 4K is up for pre-order on Amazon, plus new Blu-ray reviews and word of more 4K catalog titles
Well... what a fu@%ing year the last week has been here in the States. Here’s hoping the new week fares a little better.
We begin it with a little bit of 4K Ultra HD release news, and some new reviews too.
Let’s get to the reviews first...
Our very own Tim Salmons has checked out Michael Curtiz’s King Creole (1958), a classic Elvis title now on Blu-ray from Paramount. Sounds like this one is a little better than To Catch a Thief was, but it does seem that the Paramount Presents line is off to a bit of a rough start. Here’s hoping the studio gets it together on these.
Tim has also posted reviews of John Hughes’ Sixteen Candles (1984) on Blu-ray from Arrow Video and Norman Z. McLeod’s Alice in Wonderland (1933) on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics. Do give them a look. [Read on here...]

Reviews of V, V: The Final Battle, and The Cold Blue on Blu-ray, plus Full Metal Jacket and Flash Gordon in 4K Ultra HD!
All right, we have a very quick post here at The Bits today, but it’s got a goodie bit of 4K news for you.
First though, I believe I promised some new disc reviews from...
I’ve now posted my thoughts on the Warner Archive Collection’s new Blu-ray edition of V: The Final Battle. And since we hadn’t covered the original yet, I went back to review their V: The Original Miniseries Blu-ray from last year as well.
Also, just this morning I posted a review of Erik Nelson’s tremendous WWII documentary The Cold Blue, new on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber. The disc also includes director William Wyler’s fully restored original documentary Memphis Belle: A Story of a Flying Fortress (1944). Both of them are a treat, and I guarantee you’ve never seen 8th Air Force air combat footage looking so good before. Don’t miss it. [Read on here...]

But we did want to check in briefly with a new interesting odds and ends.

Also coming from Universal on 6/2 (only at Best Buy stores in the US) is a new 4K Ultra HD Steelbook version of Ron Howard’s Apollo 13. You also can see that below. [Read on here...]

More reviews are on the way here too; I’m working on Hannibal 4K from Kino, Shout! and GKids’ new Princess Mononoke: Collector’s Edition, and more. So watch for those in the next few days.

Cold Pursuit announced, A Clockwork Orange in 4K, South Park: S22, The Man Who Killed Don Quixote & more
Afternoon, folks. We’ve got some news reviews for you today, plus a couple of release announcements, a new special feature column and more!

Also here at The Bits today, our own Michael Coate has just a new History, Legacy & Showmanship column looking back at Ken Hughes’ Chitty Chitty Bang Bang in honor of the film’s 50th anniversary.
