We don’t yet have the press release to confirm extras, but we suspect the disc will have HDR10 high dynamic range and 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio. You can see the cover artwork above left and also below, where it is now available for pre-order on Amazon.
Meanwhile, Universal Studios Home Entertainment has finally listed their new Universal Classic Monsters 4K single-film SKUs for release on 10/3, including The Mummy (1932), The Bride of Frankenstein (1935), Phantom of the Opera (1943), and Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954). Note that these are exactly the same 4K discs released previously, just repackaged individually.
Universal has also set M3GAN (2022) for 4K release on 10/10, and we expect Cocaine Bear and The Black Phone to appear in 4K on 9/19 soon as well, though only M3GAN and the Uni Monsters titles are currently available for pre-order on Amazon (you can see the cover art with links below).
Back on the topic of Disney for a moment: I’m hearing from trusted sources that Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) 4K UHD, which streets next Tuesday, was indeed mastered from a new 4K scan of the original 35 mm camera negative and was approved by director Henry Selick. And I’m told that it looks fantastic. Rest assured, we’ll post a full and in-depth review as soon as we get our hands on it.
In regular Blu-ray news, Paramount has set Rian Johnson’s Poker Face: Season One for Blu-ray and DVD release on 9/12.
CBS and Paramount have also set Yellowjackets: Season Two for Blu-ray and DVD release on 10/10.
Sony will release The Crown: The Complete Fifth Season on Blu-ray and DVD on 10/17.
Here’s a surprise: Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment is releasing the Netflix original The Sandman: Season One on Blu-ray on 11/27, but in the UK only (at least at the moment). You can find it available for pre-order here on Amazon UK and it SHOULD be all-region per the listing (but be aware that we can’t confirm that 100% until we have product in hand).
And finally, Lionsgate is releasing a few of Quentin Tarantino’s Miramax catalog titles (to which they’ve recent acquired the distribution rights) on Blu-ray on 10/10, including Jackie Brown, Kill Bill: Volume 1, and Kill Bill: Volume 2. Note that these are likely the same transfers released previously on the format. Lionsgate is planning new 4K Ultra HD releases of these tiles sometime in 2024.
Here’s a look at the cover artwork for The Way We Were, M3GAN, and the new Uni Monsters 4K singles (just click on the artwork to visit their respective Amazon.com pre-order pages, and don’t forget that ordering them through our links here at The Bits helps to support our work and we appreciate it!)...
Back with more news tomorrow! Stay tuned...
