We’ve got some new reviews for you to start the new week off, and as always we’ve got a bunch of release news as well, some of it official and some of it new intel on forthcoming 4K and Blu-ray catalog titles. So let’s get right into it...

We start with Dennis’ look at Keith Thomas’ recent remake of Firestarter (2022) on Blu-ray from Blumhouse and Universal.

Dennis has also offered a look at Roy Del Ruth’s On Moonlight Bay (1951) which was released earlier this year on Blu-ray by the Warner Archive Collection.

Next up, Tim has reviewed William Lustig’s final film, Uncle Sam (1996), in 4K Ultra HD from Blue Underground.

Not to be outdone, Stephen has checked in as well today with a look at Jeff Baena’s The Little Hours (2017) on Blu-ray from Gunpowder & Sky via Vinegar Syndrome.

Stephen has also reviewed Lucio Fulci’s Contraband (1980) on Blu-ray from Cauldron Films.

And finally, Stephen has done an in-depth review of Arrow Video’s recent Lies & Deceit: Five Films by Claude Chabrol Blu-ray box set, which includes Cop au Vin (1985), Inspector Lavardin (1986), Madame Bovary (1991), Betty (1993), and Torment (1994). Enjoy! [Read on here...]

Now then, obviously Paramount hasn’t made their next round of Star Trek original series films in 4K official yet, however the cover artwork for several of them did drop on the Target website over the weekend, so we know an official announcement is coming very soon.

In the meantime, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has just announced the 4K Ultra HD Steelbook release of Bram Stoker’s Dracula from Francis Ford Coppola. Look for that to street on 10/4. The film was originally released on 4K UHD back in 2017 (see our review here), but this new edition will include a pair of new extras on the actual 4K disc: The Blood Lines – Dracula: The Man, The Myth, The Movies featurette and Annie Lennox’s Love Song For a Vampire music video. The new 4K disc will also include Dolby Vision HDR this time (the previous release was HDR10 only). You can see the cover artwork above left and also below.

Note that Sony has also set Heavy Metal for release on 4K Ultra HD in regular Amaray packaging on 8/16 (the original release was 4K Steelbook).

20th Century Studios will release The Bob’s Burgers Movie on Blu-ray and DVD on 7/19, with the Digital release on 7/12. The release will be loaded with extras including deleted scenes, theatrical shorts, animatics, and more. [Editor’s Note: A 4K Ultra HD SKU will apparently be Best Buy-exclusive.]

Paramount and Comedy Central have now set South Park: The Complete Twenty-Fourth Season for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 8/16, and the set will include extended-length versions of two episodes: The Pandemic Special and South ParQ Vaccination Special. You can see the cover art below.

RLJE Films has set AMC’s Dual for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 7/19.

Synapse Films has set Satan’s Little Helper (2004) and The Kindred (1987) for Blu-ray release on 10/25.

Unearthed Films has set Martin Campbell’s No Escape (1994) for release on Blu-ray on 10/11 as an Unearthed Classics title.

And Full Moon Features has set Charles Band’s Trancers (1984) for release on 4K Ultra HD on 10/11 as a new 2-disc Collector’s Edition.

Also, while this isn’t yet official, it appears that Neon will be releasing David Cronenberg’s Crimes of the Future on Blu-ray and DVD only on 8/9.

Now then... let’s move on to more catalog 4K Ultra HD releases...

Kino Lorber Studio Classics has just officially announced that they’re working on a new 4K Ultra HD release of John Frankenheimer’s The Train (1964). Consider that “coming soon” until we hear a final street date from the company.

Multiple studio and retail sources are now confirming a few 4K catalog titles from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment that we first revealed here at The Bits last year, including Tobe Hooper’s Poltergeist (1982) and Joel Schumacher’s The Lost Boys (1987). Both films celebrate anniversaries this year, and both are now tentatively set to street on 4K Ultra HD on 9/20.

Warner Bros. also announced last year that a Batman: The Long Halloween – Deluxe Edition would be coming to 4K Ultra HD in 2022, and that now looks likely to street on the format on 9/13.

We’ve also learned that National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation is tentatively set to arrive on 4K UHD on 11/1. And we’re expecting Elf, The Polar Express, A Christmas Story, and the Casablanca: 80th Anniversary Edition to drop in 4K from WB in November as well.

Universal is working on more new 4K UHD catalog titles too, including Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life on 9/13, followed by 8 Mile on 4K in November (street date TBA). Don’t forget that they have Andrzej Bartkowiak’s Doom (2005) coming to 4K on 8/9 (you can see the cover art for that below).

In terms of new release titles, Uni is expected to drop Jurassic World: Dominion on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 8/16, along with a new Jurassic World Ultimate Collection box set that same day, while Minions: The Rise of Gru is expected to follow on those same formats on 9/6.

And Paramount is still expected to release Top Gun: Maverick on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 8/23.

By the way, Paramount has also recently upgraded its Digital versions of Blue Hawaii, The First Wives Club, and Enemy at the Gates to 4K on iTunes and Apple TV. Of these, Enemy at the Gates seems like a reasonable candidate for physical 4K UHD in the future if it does well via streaming and download.

All right, all of these new titles and dates have been updated in our 4K Ultra HD Release List here at The Bits.

And here’s a look at the cover artwork for some of the titles mentioned above, with pre-order links if available...

Bram Stoker's Dracula (4K Ultra HD Steelbook) The Train (4K Ultra HD) Doom (4K Ultra HD)

South Park: The Complete Twenty-Fourth Season (Blu-ray Disc) Trancers (4K Ultra HD) What's Eating Gilbert Grape (Blu-ray Disc)

That’s all for today. Stay tuned...!
