Studio Canal reveals Bill & Ted’s Excellent Ultra HD, plus Sony’s Lawrence of Arabia 4K extras disc update

Okay, just a few quick things for you guys this afternoon, as I’ve got a stack of discs that need reviewing and there aren’t enough hours in the day (so I’d better get started)...

First, we have two new Blu-ray reviews for you to enjoy. Dennis has checked out Mary Rydell’s Even Money (2006) on disc from MVD and he’s also offered up his thoughts on William Castle’s Let’s Kill Uncle (1966) from Kino Lorber Studio Classics. Enjoy!

Now then, here’s the big news today (and it’s pretty good): Our friend Simon Brew (of the excellent Film Stories website in the UK) is reporting that Studio Canal plans to release a new 4K Ultra HD restoration of the original Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure later this year (likely in August). And indeed, the official Studio Canal UK Twitter feed has confirmed it (here).

This is no doubt tied to the theatrical release of the long-awaited sequel, Bill & Ted Face the Music, the first trailer for which can be seen below. [Read on here...]

Fingers crossed, that could be a lot of fun. Now then... there’s no word yet as to whether the first sequel, Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, will appear on 4K Ultra HD at some point. But we’d be very surprised if it didn’t.

And one other item today: Some of you may recall that I mentioned special features that were missing in my recent review of Lawrence of Arabia in 4K Ultra HD (from the new Columbia Classics 4K Ultra HD Collection, which streets next week). This omission was indeed an error and it IS being corrected. Here’s Sony’s official statement:

“Due to a manufacturing error, the Columbia Classics 4K Ultra HD Collection currently includes an incorrect LAWRENCE OF ARABIA special features disc, which does not include the full amount of intended content. This does not affect the 4K UHD presentation of the film itself. The correct special features disc will be available to consumers who purchase the set, whether as a pre-order or as part of a future order, pending the eventual availability of sets that already have the correct disc included. Consumers should receive communication from their retailer about this corrected disc soon, but may contact the Sony Pictures Home Entertainment Customer Care team with any questions at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or 1-800-860-2878.”

So there you go. You can either wait to buy the set with the corrected disc, or get it now and contact Sony to obtain the fixed special features disc. I’m told that those corrected discs should be available VERY soon, but it will probably be a few weeks yet before the corrected box sets are being shipped. Just FYI. I’ve updated my review here at The Bits accordingly.

All right, I could have sworn there was something else I was going to mention here today, but it seems to have escaped my mind. So I’m just gonna get back to working on reviews.
