Midway, Knives Out, A Beautiful Day & Ne Zha official, plus Daniel Craig 007 4K singles & Terry Jones RIP

We’ve got several more new announcements to report today, so let’s get right to it...

First of all, Lionsgate has officially set Roland Emmerich’s Midway for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 2/18, with the Digital release expected on 2/4. The 4K version will include Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio. Extras on the Blu-ray and 4K versions will include audio commentary by Roland Emmerich, 6 featurettes (Getting It Right: The Making of Midway, The Men of Midway, Roland Emmerich: Man on a Mission, Turning Point: The Legacy of Midway, Joe Rochefort: Breaking the Japanese Code, and We Met at Midway: Two Survivors Remember), plus the film’s theatrical trailer. Lionsgate has also announced the Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD release of Rian Johnson’s Knives Out on 2/25, with the Digital release due on 2/7. Again, the 4K version will include Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio. [Read on here...]

Extras on the Blu-ray and 4K will include audio commentary (by writer/director Rian Johnson, director of photography Steve Yedlin, and actor Noah Segan), In-Theatre Commentary by Johnson, 2 deleted scenes with optional commentary (Bicycling Accident and Don’t Do Anything Rash), the 8-part Making a Murder documentary, the Rian Johnson: Planning the Perfect Murder featurette, Writer/Director and Cast Q&A, a marketing gallery, and the Meet the Thrombeys viral ads. More announcements to go... Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has officially set Marielle Heller’s A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 2/18, with the Digital release expected on 2/4. Look for HDR10 high dynamic range and DTS:X audio on the 4K. Extras on the Blu-ray and 4K will include filmmaker commentary, over 15 minutes of additional scenes, a blooper reel, and 4 featurettes (Tom Hanks as Fred Rogers, The People Who Make a Neighborhood: The Making of, Dreaming Big, Building Small: The Puppets & Miniatures, and Daniel Tiger Explains: Practice Makes Perfect). And Well Go USA Entertainment has set the animated film Ne Zha for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 3/3, with the Digital release due on 2/25. Both the Blu-ray and 4K will feature Dolby Atmos audio. The film is the first animated film selected as the Chinese entry for Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards. Also, we’ve learned that MGM and Fox will be releasing all four of the Daniel Craig 007 films—Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, and SPECTRE—as 4K Ultra HD singles on 2/25, timed to promote the theatrical release of the final Craig Bond film, No Time to Die, on 4/10. And finally today, we simply must take a moment to tip our hats and bow our heads in honor of the passing of the great writer, filmmaker, and comedy legend Terry Jones, who was the heart and soul of Monty Python, the co-director (with Terry Gilliam) of Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and the sole director of Life of Brian and The Meaning of Life. And that is just scratching the surface. He is also arguably the only reason that the complete Monty Python’s Flying Circus TV series survives in as good a condition as it does—he saved all the tapes himself. Terry had been suffering from dementia in recent years. He was 77. On a personal note, Terry’s made me laugh so often in my own life that I feel I owe him a very great debt.
