Greetings, friends!

We’ve got some great release news for you today, specifically of Criterion’s latest monthly Blu-ray and 4K slate, which we’ll get to in a minute.

But first, I wanted to catch you all up on the latest disc reviews we’ve shared here at The Bits, if you’re interested.

Available now are…

Tim’s look at the Mortal Kombat Kollection (1995-97) in 4K Ultra HD from Arrow Video and the Silent Night, Deadly Night: Parts 1 & 2 – Limited Edition (1984) in 4K Ultra HD from Imprint Films.

Stephen’s thoughts on William Friedkin’s To Live and Die in L.A. (1985) in 4K UHD from Arrow Video, David Lynch’s The Elephant Man (1980) in 4K UHD from Criterion, and Phil Joanou’s State of Grace (1990) in 4K UHD from Imprint Films.

Todd’s take on Silvio Amadio’s So Lovely, So Young, So Vicious (1975) on Blu-ray from Raro Video, Matthew Shear’s Fantasy Life (2025) on DVD from Greenwich Entertainment, David Hemmings’ The Survivor (1981) on Blu-ray from Indicator, Ray McKinnon’s The Accountant (2001) and Randy and the Mob (2007) on Blu-ray from Lightyear Entertainment, and Mika Ninagawa’s Helter Skelter (2012) and Sakuran (2006) on Blu-ray from 88 Films.

Dennis’ review of David Butler’s King Richard and the Crusaders (1954) on Blu-ray from the Warner Archive Collection.

And finally, Stuart’s thoughts on Gerry and Sylvia Anderson’s “Supermarionation” classic Stingray: The Complete Series (1964-65) on Blu-ray from Imprint Television!

More reviews are forthcoming, as always, so be sure to keep checking back daily for them.

Now then… let’s get to that announcement news, shall we?

Our friends at the Criterion Collection have just announced their full October slate. [Read on here...]

In addition to the previously announced The Complete Kubrick (4K + Blu-ray) box set on 10/20, look for…

  • Ngozi Onwurah’s Welcome II the Terrordome (1995) (Spine #1329 – Blu-ray) on 10/6
  • Jerzy Skolimowski’s The Shout (1978) (Spine #1331 – Blu-ray) on 10/13
  • Eclipse Series 5: The First Films of Samuel Fuller (Blu-ray) on 10/13 – this includes Blu-ray upgrades of three titles previously released on DVD only, I Shot Jesse James (1949), The Baron of Arizona (1950), and The Steel Helmet (1951)
  • Uli Edel’s Christiane F. (1981) (Spine #1330 – 4K + Blu-ray and Blu-ray) on 10/20
  • Jonathan Demme’s The Silence of the Lambs (1991) ( Spine #13 – 4K + Blu-ray) on 10/20
  • And Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein (2025) (Spine #1332 – 4K + Blu-ray, Blu-ray, and DVD) on 10/27

Note that Frankenstein is a 4-disc set including both the theatrical version and a new extended director’s cut, the 158-minute Frankenstein: The Reborn Cut, in both 4K and Blu-ray, plus extras.

Note also that there’s no separate 4K SKU of Stanley Kubrick’s Lolita, though one could still follow at some point in the future, perhaps next year (for those fans who’ve already picked up the rest of Kubrick’s filmography in 4K UHD from other labels).

You can pre-order all of these titles (and read more about them all) here on the Criterion website today.

Also, one last piece of announcement news: Our friends down under at Imprint Films have announced their August Imprint Asia Blu-ray slate as well, which will include:

The Erotic Films of Li Han-Hsiang: Volume One – with Illicit Desire (1973), The Golden Lotus (1974), and Moods of Love (1977)

Nikkatsu Erotica: Volume One – with Wet Desire (1972) and Lovers are Wet (1973)

All right, that’s all for now!
