We’ve got a couple good things for you here at The Bits today, plus some good new release news too...

First up, Michael Coate has posted a nice look back at Stanley Kubrick’s Spartacus in honor of the film’s newly-remastered Blu-ray re-release by Universal. You’ll find that today in Michael’s History, Legacy & Showmanship column.

And Tim has posted the next installment of his Halloween Hangover, featuring a review of Manos: The Hands of Fate on Blu-ray from Synapse Films.  [Read on here…]

Speaking of Tim’s reviews, he’s just updated his review of Scream Factory’s new Army of Darkness Blu-ray from the other day to include details of a possible exchange program Scream is going to be setting up. Apparently, there’s one shot missing from the film in the theatrical cut in the set. Scream is working with Universal to fix this and make a replacement disc available. See Tim’s review for the details. Thanks to our old friend (and filmmaker) Vincent Pereira, Bits reader Nate K. and many others for the word on this.

In announcement news today, Lionsgate has officially set Mr. Holmes for Blu-ray and DVD release on 11/10 (SRP $24.99 and $19.98), with a digital release expected on 10/27. Extras will include a pair of featurettes (Icon and Story).

Lionsgate has also set Daniel Lee’s Dragon Blade for Blu-ray and DVD release on 12/22, answering the question: “Where’s Jackie Chan been lately?” The film also stars John Cusack and Adrian Brody.

And Lionsgate has revealed that their Shaun the Sheep Blu-ray and DVD, due 11/24 (digital release on 11/10) will arrive on disc with 4 featurettes (Making the Shaun Movie, Meet the Characters, Join Shaun Behind the Scenes, and Meet the Crew), and a parody poster gallery.

Universal has set Mr. Robot: Season One for Blu-ray and DVD release on 1/12/2016. You can pre-order it here.

Universal has also set Edward Zwick’s Pawn Sacrifice for Blu-ray and DVD release on 12/22, starring Tobey Maguire, Peter Sarsgaard, and Liev Schreiber.

Starz and Anchor Bay have set Marco Polo: The Complete First Season for Blu-ray and DVD release on 12/15.

Cinedigm will release War Pigs on Blu-ray and DVD on 12/1, starring Dolph Lundgren and Mickey Rourke.

Meanwhile, our friends at the Warner Archive have just set the Humphrey Bogart classic Passage to Marseille for Blu-ray release (looks like street date is still TBA), packed with extras. They’ve also set the animated Justice League Unlimited: The Complete Series for Blu-ray release as well on 11/10. The Archive has also set Forbidden Hollywood: Volume 9 for DVD only release on 10/27, including the film’s Big City Blues, Hell’s Highway, The Cabin in the Cotton, When Ladies Meet, and I Sell Anything.

Sony has set The Final Girls for Blu-ray and DVD release on 11/3.

And Twilight Time has offered a peek at the titles they’re working on for Blu-ray/DVD release early next year. In January (on 1/19), watch for Bound for Glory (1976), From the Terrace (1960), The Happy Ending (1969), The Last Detail (1973), and Hawaii (1966). Then in February (on 2/9), they’re working on La Bambola di Satana (1969 – aka The Doll of Satan), Where the Sidewalk Ends (1950), The Big Heat (1953), Cowboy (1958), The Hawaiians (1970), and a comedy double-feature disc of Support Your Local Sheriff (1969) and Support Your Local Gunfighter (1971).

Finally today, we have a bit of interesting Blu-ray release news from other regions...

Amazon Spain has just listed an Iron Giant Blu-ray for release on 3/1/2016. It’s not up anywhere else yet, but that seems a likely street date for the U.S. release. Thanks to Bits reader David D. for the heads-up.

Zavvi has just released a retail-exclusive Blu-ray of Farscape: The Complete Series – Universe Collection Megabook in the UK (Region B), which includes the series, Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars, and tons of extras (including the Farscape Undressed special) in special book packaging. You can see that here. Thanks to Bits reader Colin H. for that.

And it looks like Universal is releasing SeaQuest DSV on Blu-ray in Australia. Season One is already scheduled for release on Blu-ray as a 4-disc set on 2/12 for $59.95 (Australian dollars, obviously). Thanks to Bits reader Paul R. for calling our attention to that!

Oh... and of course the final trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens debuted last night as expected. Here’s that...

All right, we’ll leave you with a look at more new Blu-ray cover artwork (with Amazon pre-order links if available)...

Knock Knock (Blu-ray Disc)    Passage to Marseille (Blu-ray Disc)    Pawn Sacrifice (Blu-ray Disc)

Dragon Blade (Blu-ray Disc)    Justice League Unlimited: The Complete Series (Blu-ray Disc)    Ascension (DVD)

Stay tuned...
