Blu-ray & DVD News – Minions, Xmas Vacation, Jimmy’s Hall, new Warner Archive, Criterion flash sale & TONs of indie title news

We’re kicking things off on this Tuesday with another new Halloween Hangover review from Tim Salmons. This time, it’s a look at Mark Hartley’s Electric Boogaloo: The Wild, Untold Story of Cannon Films on DVD from Warner Home Video.

Speaking of Warner, the studio has set the National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation: 25th Anniversary Edition for Blu-ray release on 12/1 (SRP $19.98) in what looks like Steelbook packaging (see left and below).  [Read on here…]

Warner Archive, meanwhile, has a great new slate of titles now available including Horror Classics: Volume One (BD), all four of those titles on BD individually – The Mummy (1959), Dracula Has Risen from the Grave (1968), Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed (1969), and Taste the Blood of Dracula (1970), a pair of Jackie Chan films on Blu-ray including Rumble in the Bronx (1995) and Jackie Chan’s First Strike (1996), Nicholas Ray’s Wind Across the Everglades (1959) on DVD, the Hanna-Barbara classic Atom Ant: The Complete Series (1965-66) on DVD, and three early Helen Hayes films on DVD including Another Language (1933), What Every Woman Knows (1934), and Vanessa: Her Love Story (1935).

Universal has just officially set Minions for Blu-ray and DVD release on 12/8, with the digital release set for 11/24. There are a TON of extras on the Blu-ray including 3 all-new mini movies (Cro Minion, Competition, and Binky Nelson Unpacified), a deleted scene, an Around the World interactive map, 16 Behind the Goggles: The Illumination Story of the Minions featurettes (Writer, Boss’ Office, Art Department, Composer, Gallery: Concept Art, Gallery: Color Script, Actors Studio, Notice Boards, Safety Video, Directors, Producers, Editorial, Storyboard Artist, Gallery: Stuart Hot Tub Storyboard, Gallery: 3D Models, and Jingle Bells Minion Style), 2 Illumination MacGuff Animation featurettes (Animation and Lighting, Layout, and Effects), and a trailer for The Secret Life of Pets.

Sony Pictures Classics is releasing Ken Loach’s Jimmy’s Hall on Blu-ray and DVD on 11/17.

FUNimation will release Black Lagoon: The Complete Series – Premium Edition on Blu-ray on 11/17.

Kino Lorber has set Patricio Guzmán’s 2015 documentary The Pearl Button for Blu-ray and DVD release on 3/29/2016. They also have Jafar Panahi’s Taxi coming on both formats on 3/15, as well as Evan Johnson’s The Forbidden Room on 3/1. Kino has also set Nadav Lapid’s The Kindergarten Teacher for Blu-ray and DVD release on 12/8.

Monterey Media has set The Girl on the Train, The Kitchen, Girl on a Bicycle, and 3 Nights in the Desert for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 11/13.

Screen Media will release Chazz Palminteri’s Noel on Blu-ray and DVD on 11/13 as well. The film stars Paul Walker, Penelope Cruz, Susan Sarandon, and Alan Arkin. They also have the hockey comedy Breakaway coming that day to both formats.

Breaking Glass Pictures has set Bite Marks and Leather for Blu-ray and DVD on 11/13.

Music Box Films will release Maison Close: Season Two on Blu-ray and DVD on 1/19/2016.

Cinedigm has set Joshua Oppenheimer’s The Look of Silence for Blu-ray and DVD release on 1/12. The company will also release Rémi Bezançon and Jean-Christophe Lie’s animated Zarafa on both formats on 11/10.

Acorn Media will release Agatha Christie’s Partners in Crime on Blu-ray and DVD on 1/5.

Mill Creek Entertainment has set The 10th Kingdom: 15th Anniversary Special Edition for Blu-ray release on 11/3.

Entertainment One has set an Anne of Green Gables: 30th Anniversary Edition for Blu-ray release on 11/3.

And Eagle Rock Entertainment will release Eric Clapton: Slowhand at 70 – Love at the Royal Albert Hall on Blu-ray, DVD/CD combo, CD, and LP on 11/13.
