Of course, we’ll be back tomorrow with our regular release news update.
But first... quite a number of you have e-mailed or messaged me privately today to ask what I thought of last night’s premiere of Star Trek: Discovery on CBS. Honestly, I’m not quite sure what I think. I didn’t watch the second episode on CBS All Access, and I probably won’t for a while. I’d rather wait and binge the whole thing on Blu-ray at some point. One hour certainly isn’t enough to judge it fairly, though. All I can really do is offer a sense of what my ’between-the-ears’ reaction is. For my taste, it’s a bit glossy and spectacle heavy. It’s very different, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I’m a little puzzled by it, frankly. One of the reasons the producers of the recent Trek films got away with such a radically different look is by saying the Kelvin started a new timeline. Okay, that worked for me. But now, they’re saying that this is the Prime timeline and yet it still looks like super Kelvin-y. So… I guess I’ll look forward to Bruce Greenwood’s big Chris Pike episode. Who knows? Star Trek: Discovery could end up being great. We’ll have to wait and see. I certainly hope it finds its feet and its audience. Mostly though, if you enjoyed it, I hope you don’t bother much what anyone else thinks. Life’s too short. Just enjoy every minute of it.
All right, that’s it for today. Back tomorrow with lots more. Cheers, friends!
