Speaking of Paramount, the studio will be releasing a new Star Trek: Picard Movie and TV Collection on Blu-ray on 10/15. The 6-disc set includes Star Trek: Generations, Star Trek: First Contact, Star Trek: Insurrection, and Star Trek: Nemesis, along with the feature-length versions of the Star Trek: The Next Generation episodes The Best of Both Worlds and Chain of Command. All of these have been released previously on Blu-ray. This is obviously designed to prepare new viewers for the upcoming CBS All Access original Series Star Trek: Picard.
Speaking of Star Trek, at the official 2019 Star Trek Las Vegas Convention this past weekend there were again rumblings of movement toward a long-awaited 4K remastering of Star Trek: The Motion Picture – The Director’s Edition by Paramount, though as yet no official announcement. The original theatrical version of the film is returning to theaters as a Fathom Event on 9/14 and 9/18. Tickets are on sale now.
And back to Paramount again for a moment: The studio is preparing a new Steelbook 20th Anniversary Edition re-release of Galaxy Quest on Blu-ray, set to be released exclusively at Best Buy stores on 9/21. The set includes all the previous extras. I must say, I would certainly love to see this film released on physical 4K Ultra HD. But I hope if they ever do release it in 4K, the studio will go back to Dean Parisot and get his permission to restore Sigourney Weaver’s altered expletive in the film’s so-called “chompers” scene. Rumor is the film was originally R-rated and there’s some additional deleted in that cut material as well.
And finally today, we’ve learned that BBC Home Entertainment will release Good Omens on Blu-ray and DVD on 10/1.
That’s all for now! Enjoy the reviews and stay tuned…
