Well, it appears that AACS 2.0 encryption used in 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray releases may have been broken by digital pirates. The first torrent ripped from a UHD disc has appeared online in the past week. It’s Sony’s The Smurfs 2 of all things. You can read more here on PC Magazine. The file is a whopping 53GB in size, however, so I’m not sure who would ever want to download such a thing. While we’re speaking of 4K, it turns out that Broad Green Pictures’ recently announced 7/4 release of director Terrence Malick’s Song to Song will include a 4K UHD SKU in addition to Blu-ray and DVD. Finally today, Tim has a trio of new Blu-ray reviews for you to check out including The Skull from Kino Lorber Studio Classics, Mill Creek Entertainment’s Pulse (1988), and a new version of Fright Night released by Eureka in the UK that’s region free for those of you who may have missed out on Twilight Time’s outstanding recent limited editions. Do give them a look.

That’s all for now. Stay tuned…
