A lot of you have asked when the studio is finally going to release Terminator: Genisys on 4K here in the States (as it’s already available in Europe and elsewhere). Well, the answer is 6/12. It’s already up on Amazon now (see this link) and we do believe it’s the 4K SKU (based upon the 3-disc configuration, the SRP, and word from retail sources).
Now then… we’ve been hearing rumors from international sources that Robert Zemeckis’ Forrest Gump was going to be released in 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray by the studio this year. Indeed, we’ve now confirmed that is happening as well. (It appears the street date will also be 6/12, but this is TBA.)
Here’s the kicker: We’ve also now confirmed that Paramount is going to be releasing all five of the classic Jack Ryan/Tom Clancy films in 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray in 2018, as part of their promotional support for Amazon’s new Jack Ryan TV series (set to debut on Amazon Prime in August). So look for The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, The Sum of All Fears, and Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit all to be spinning in your 4K players before the end of the year.
Whew!
Given all of the frustration with Paramount’s catalog efforts in recent years on regular Blu-ray, let me just say how pleased I am to see them going like gangbusters with catalog in 4K. Our thanks to everyone at the studio who’s behind this effort. 4K fans do appreciate it. Of course, we’ve updated our 4K Ultra HD Release List with these new details accordingly.
One last thing today: We’ve posted the new update of our Release Dates & Cover Art section with all the latest Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K cover artwork and Amazon.com pre-order links. As always, we greatly appreciate it when you shop Amazon through our links as it helps us to continue doing the work we do here at The Bits on your behalf. So thank you!
That’s all for now. Stay tuned…
