We’re rounding out the week with a trio of additional disc reviews here at the site...

Stephen and Tim have checked in with thoughts on Scream Factory’s new 4K Ultra HD release of Joe Dante’s The Howling.

Tim has also taken a look at Mario and Lamberto Bava’s Shock (1977), which is now available on Blu-ray from Arrow Video.

And Dennis has delivered a new look at Nicholas Ray’s Party Girl (1958) on Blu-ray from The Warner Archive Collection.

More reviews are on the way for next week too, including my own of Frank Darabont’s The Green Mile in 4K from Warner. So be sure to check back then.

In terms of announcement news today, we expect Disney and 20th Century Studios to officially announce Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD any time now, with an anticipated street date of 3/15. You can see the retail cover artwork below. [Read on here...]

Also, Universal has set Kenneth Branagh’s Oscar-nominated Belfast (2021) for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 3/1. Again, you can see the cover artwork below.

And Imprint Films has just announced their May Blu-ray release slate, which is set to include The Warriors (1979) (with both the theatrical and director’s cuts, new audio commentaries by Chris Poggiali, Michael Gingold, and Walter Chaw, and 5 new interview featurettes with Barry De Vorzon, James Remar, Dorsey Wright, David Patrick Kelly, and UCLA professor Bryant Kirkland), an After Dark: Neo-Noir Cinema – Collection One set (featuring After Dark My Sweet, Mortal Thoughts, Rush, One False Move, Flesh and Bone, and Twilight), The Contender (2000), and Bloody Sunday (2002). All of these will be loaded with legacy extras and some new ones too. All the details will be up on their website shortly here.

Finally, Paramount has confirmed that there’s an audio issue on their new Escape from L.A. 4K Ultra HD release. Apparently, the center channel is being reproduced in the surrounds. They are fixing the release and will be launching a disc replacement program. Here’s their official statement:

“It has come to our attention that there is an English audio encoding error on the new 4K Ultra HD Disc of John Carpenter’s Escape from L.A. Paramount Home Entertainment has corrected the issue and is immediately creating new discs, however the initial shipment of discs has reached some retail outlets. Fans who purchase a disc with a white UPC barcode on the package and would like a replacement should email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for instructions. The corrected product will be shipped free of charge. If your disc package has a yellow UPC barcode, then it is the corrected version and you do not need a replacement.

It is always our intention to distribute the highest quality product and we apologize for any inconvenience this error has caused.”

All right, we’ll leave you with a look at the cover artwork for some of the titles mentioned above. We’ll add the Amazon pre-order links as they become available…
