In other news today, Bits reader Daniel P. reminded me this morning that HBO is showing The Godfather Epic in HD starting on 1/17 (this coming Sunday). This is the full, uncensored chronological cut of The Godfather and The Godfather, Part II, complete with all of the additional footage in HD and also uncut for moments of violence and nudity (unlike the recent AMC broadcast). So if you’re a fan of those films, here’s your first ever chance to see them presented this way in HD. You can find out more about this here via HBO.
Finally, we’d be seriously remiss if we didn’t take a moment to acknowledge the death this morning of the acclaimed British stage and screen actor Alan Rickman, of cancer. He was 69. American film audiences first discovered him as Hans Gruber in Die Hard. Young fans will know him as Professor Snape in the Harry Potter films. Generation X-ers (myself included) fell in love with his performance in the Star Trek spoof Galaxy Quest as Sir Alexander Dane. And that’s just scratching the surface. Rickman will be dearly missed. You can read more here via The Guardian. Far too many greats are gone so far in 2016.
Back tomorrow with more release news. Stay tuned...
