We’ve got just a quick update for you today, but we’ve got a bit of release news and some new reviews too.

First up those reviews... Tim has checked out National Lampoon’s Class Reunion on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics, and David has posted his thoughts on Black Widow (1954) from Twilight and The [Rec] Collection from Scream Factory.

Now then, we’ve confirmed with Sony that there are currently no plans to release The Girl in the Spider’s Web on physical 4K Ultra HD in the States. This could change if the title performs unexpectedly well on Blu-ray, but the film’s failure at the box office seems to have put the kabosh on the studio’s initial release plans. It may also have cramped plans to release David Fincher’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo on 4K and Panic Room on Blu-ray/4K. But we’ll have to wait and see. [Read on here...]

Speaking of other titles that may or may not see the light of day anytime soon, director James Cameron recently hinted that he could have work on True Lies and The Abyss Blu-ray releases completed before the end of the year. In a recent interview with Empire magazine, he said: “It’s a question of time-management. True Lies and The Abyss both have Blu-ray transfers that are complete for my review. The problem is the next 14 hours when I have to go back and trim the color and get each one perfect. That’s 28 hours. I don’t have 28 hours.” Of course, he’s made similar comments in the past and nothing has come to fruition. So while I would like to think Blu-ray (and maybe even 4K) releases could finally happen in 2019, I wouldn’t hold my breath. In any case, you can read the article here.

Meanwhile, we’ve confirmed with retail sources that Disney plans to release Mary Poppins Returns on physical 4K Ultra HD in March of April of next year (along with Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital).

In announcement news, Shout! Factory has set Born in East LA and Ned Kelly for Shout Select Blu-ray release on 3/19, with Someone to Watch Over Me due on 3/12.

20th Century Fox will release The Sisters Brothers on Blu-ray and DVD on 2/5. Fox has also set The Hate U Give for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 1/22.

Universal will release A Private War, starring Rosamund Pike, on Blu-ray and DVD on 2/5 as well. Universal and Focus Films have set Boy Erased for release on both formats on 1/29. Universal is also re-releasing Ron Howard’s Willow on Blu-ray on 1/29.

Arrow Academy has set Phantom Lady (1944) and The Prisoner (1955) for Blu-ray release on 3/12.

Powerhouse/Indicator will release A Severed Head, Take a Girl Like You, and Psych 59 on Blu-ray on 3/1.

Lionsgate will release the recent Suspiria remake on Blu-ray on 1/29. There’s no word yet of a 4K release.

For schlock fans, Wild Eye has Sheborg coming to Blu-ray on 1/22.

Dark Side Releasing has set Soviet Zombie Invasion and Yesterday for release on Blu-ray on 4/9.

And SGL Entertainment will release Johnny Daggers’ Noctambulist on Blu-ray on 1/22.

Finally today, that ULA rocket launch from Vandenberg AFB that we mentioned the other day has been rescheduled for tonight at 5:44 PM Pacific. So if you live in Southern California, check this live stream to see if it actually DOES launch as expected and then run outside and look up to the northwest. You might see a really pretty show in the sky.

That’s all for now. Stay tuned!
