Blu-ray News – Freaks & Geeks, Everest, Vincent Price III, Zoolander, Sherlock, new Criterion art & more

We’ve got a bunch of good announcement news for you today. But first, Jim Hemphill has just turned in a new review here at The Bits featuring Twilight’s Devil in a Blue Dress on Blu-ray. Enjoy!  [Read on here…]

Now then, Shout! Factory’s long-awaited Freaks & Geeks: The Complete Series Blu-ray set is coming on 3/22/16 according to Amazon.com (SRP $119.00 – click this link to pre-order it). Details will be announced soon. Shout has also set The Vincent Price Collection III for BD release on 2/16 (the specific titles included haven’t been revealed yet). Meanwhile, they have No Way Out due on BD on 2/16, followed by Midnight Run and a Jesus of Nazareth: Complete Miniseries – 40th Anniversary Edition (this is the 1977 Franco Zeffirelli project) both on Blu-ray on 2/23.

Not to be outdone, Shout!’s Scream Factory label will release Blu-ray double features of Millennium/R.O.T.O.R. and The Curse/Curse II: The Bite on 2/23.

In other news, Universal has set Everest set for Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, and DVD on 1/19, with the digital release due 1/19. All versions will include audio commentary with director Baltasar Kormákur, and 2 featurettes (Race to the Summit: The Making of Everest and Aspiring to Authenticity: The Real Story). The Blu-rays will add 2 more featurettes (Learning to Climb: The Actors’ Journey and A Mountain of Work: Recreating Everest).

Universal also has Ted 2 up for pre-order on Amazon for BD and DVD release on 12/15, followed by along Suffragette on Blu-ray and DVD on 2/2. Meanwhile, Universal’s Rock the Kasbah is up for pre-order too but the street date is still TBA.

Paramount has set Zoolander: The Blue Steelbook for wide release on Blu-ray on 2/2 (it’s previously been a Best Buy exclusive title).

Image Entertainment has set the western Bone Tomahawk for Blu-ray release on 12/29.

20th Century Fox Home Entertainment is releasing The Devil Wears Prada: The 10th Anniversary Edition on Blu-ray on 1/12.

The BBC’s Sherlock Holiday Special is now Sherlock: The Abominable Bride and is due on BD and DVD on 1/12. We have final cover artwork below.

Lionsgate and Lifetime will release UnREAL: Season 1 on DVD on 1/26.

And Acorn Media will release The Fall: Series 2 on Blu-ray and DVD on 3/1.

Heads-up #4K #UltraHD and #Bluray fans: It looks like Warner's The Goonies is now due on 6/2, with Birds of Prey due on 5/12.

Heads-up re #StarWars: It appears the new Last Jedi #4K (w/score-only track, Meet the Porgs, no Dolby Vision) is only in the Skywalker Saga box for now. Disney says it IS coming separately (Solo too) in the new packaging—just not tomorrow. When I have the date, I'll let you know.
