And Kino Lorber Studio Classics has revealed a few more upcoming catalog Blu-ray titles, including The Outside Man (1972) and Film Noir: The Dark Side of Cinema Volume XVI (1942-1951) – including Iron Man (1951), Chicago Deadline (1949), and The Mystery of Marie Roget (1942), all of which are expected to street on 1/9. They’ve also revealed that Byron Haskin’s Man-eater of Kumaon (1948) is “coming soon.”
In other news, here’s something fun for you all to check out from YouTube: Filmmaker Paul Davis has just shared (on his channel The Cinema Lobby) rare outtakes and deleted footage from William Friedkin’s The Exorcist. Some of this content has appeared on YouTube before, while some of it has never been seen before (including the Captain Howdy/Pazuzu make-up test, which is the stuff of legend). It should be noted that none of it has been made available on any of the official Blu-ray or DVD releases. Tip of the hat to Paul for finding this stuff and sharing it with everyone! Here you go...
Finally today, I wanted to let you all know that I’m going to be participating in a Facebook live webstream/podcast called Is Physical Media Dead? this coming Thursday (November 9, at 5:30 PM PST), hosted by our friends John Schuermann and Steve Crabb at The Screening Room AV. I’ll be there and we’ll be joined by another friend, the famed AV calibrator Kris Deering (of Deep Dive AV), to talk about:
- The future of physical media – DVD vs. Blu-ray vs. UHD Blu-ray
- The future of “special features”
- Licensing titles to the boutique labels
- The latest on upcoming releases
- Best Buy’s actual market share
- How good is streaming vs. physical/Kaleidescape/“Purestream”
...and more! We’ll also be doing Q&A, taking live viewer and listener questions. You can read more here at The Screening Room A/V’s promo page for the event (click here), and you can join us live on Thursday at this link (click here or on the image below). We hope to see you all there!
Now then, I’m off to the home theater to try and finish a 4K disc review or two (including Rudy)!
Back tomorrow with more. Stay tuned...
