It’s a slow news day today, given the Labor Day holiday here in the States. All the studios are closed and there’s no announcements being made today. Still, we do have a couple items for you...

A number of you have asked about Warner’s The Hobbit Trilogy 3D: Extended Edition in Blu-ray 3D. Amazon.com hasn’t started taking pre-orders on the set yet, but strangely you can already pre-order the German version here on Amazon.de. Supposedly Amazon has the exclusive on the 3D version, but we don’t know when they’re going to start promoting it.  [Read on here…]

A number of you have also asked about a possible US release of Network’ Space: 1999 – The Complete Second Season, which streets on Blu-ray in the UK next week. No US distributor has yet been chosen, but we do believe that will change. We’re just not sure if it’s going to happen this year. Meanwhile, keep in mind that the UK version is Region B and there’s probably PAL SD content, so make sure your system can accommodate that if you import it. We will be doing a review of the title as soon as we can.

Lionsgate is releasing the documentary Amy, about the late singer Amy Winehouse, on Blu-ray and DVD on 12/1.

Also on the music documentary front, Universal Music has set Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck for Blu-ray and DVD release on 11/6.

Meanwhile, Universal will release The Gift on Blu-ray and DVD on 10/27.

Kino Lorber has set Kim Seong-Hun’s A Hard Day for Blu-ray and DVD release on 11/24. Kino has also set F.W. Murnau’s Faust for Blu-ray and DVD release on 11/17 as part of their Classics slate.

Don’t forget, Flicker Alley is releasing Chaplin’s Essanay Comedies 1915 on Blu-ray/DVD Combo on 11/17.

And Image has set Adam Egypt Mortimer’s Some Kind of Hate for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 12/29.

In other Blu-ray and DVD-related news around the Net today, there are a few good Labor Day weekend deals to be had. First, Amazon has Game of Thrones: Seasons 1-2 available on Blu-ray for just $38.99 (72% off). Amazon also has a slate of Criterion WWII films on sale on Blu-ray and DVD for up to 50% off. And WBShop has a Labor Day weekend going for up to 44% off on Blu-ray and DVD titles.

And in other news today, there are reports surfacing (apparently originating from the BBFC) that there may be a new trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens released on Friday. You can read more here.

Whether or not that pans out, Drew over at HitFix has reported that the new opening theme song for the upcoming Bond film, SPECTRE, is dropping tomorrow (Tuesday) morning. There are additional hints that Sam Smith is the singer. We’ll see tomorrow.

Finally today, we’d like to take a moment to acknowledge the passing of Our Gang star Jean Darling (93), Laugh-In’s “sock it to me” girl Judy Carne (76), and Adam 12 and Swiss Family Robinson star Martin Milner (83) over this long holiday weekend. All will be missed.

Here’s a few pieces of new Blu-ray cover artwork for some of the titles mentioned above (don’t forget, Space: 1999 – Season 2 is Region B)…

Amy (Blu-ray Disc)    FW Murnaw's Faust (Blu-ray Disc)    Space: 1999 - The Complete Second Series (Region B Blu-ray)

Back tomorrow with the usual. Stay tuned...
