Meanwhile, Magnolia Home Entertainment is releasing Lars Von Trier’s Nymphomaniac Volumes 1 & 2 on Blu-ray on 7/8 (SRP $39.98 – pre-order here on Amazon.com), along Volume 1 & 2 individually (SRP $29.98 each). They also have Stage Fright set for BD and DVD on 7/8.
20th Century Fox Home Entertainment will release Son of God on Blu-ray Combo and DVD on 6/3.
Also, Disney has just revealed that their previous Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli releases are going to be re-priced on 5/4, which could be part of the lead-up plan for their eventual BD/DVD release of The Wind Rises and additional Ghibli catalog titles.
And here’s something interesting: I’ve been getting a lot of reader inquiries lately about the Blu-ray release of Brad Bird’s animated film The Iron Giant, possibly because it’s been showing in HD on pay cable recently. Apparently, I’m not the only one. Bird himself was asked about the possibility of a Blu-ray yesterday on Twitter and had this to say: “WB & I have been talking. But they want a bare bones disc. I want better.” Damn right! We do too. Bird then suggested: “Let them know; @WBHomeEnt” As it happens, THIS year is the film’s 15th Anniversary. So we say, follow Brad’s advice. Let Warner know you want a loaded Iron Giant: 15th Anniversary Special Edition on Blu-ray next year – @WBHomeEnt. Tweet ‘em where it counts, folks!
Here’s a look at the Blu-ray cover artwork for Universal’s Non-Stop, Kindergarten Cop, and Cry Baby, Warner’s Viva Las Vegas and Elvis: That’s the Way It Is (both due 8/12), and Flicker Alley’s Chaplin’s Mutual Comedies: 1916-1917 box set (due 8/5 – the listing says DVD but this is a Blu-ray/DVD box)...
Stay tuned...
