While we’re still talking 4K Ultra HD, we’ve done some digging with our retail sources and have managed to confirm street dates for some upcoming titles. Look for Ridley Scott’s Alien: 40th Anniversary Edition on 4/2 from 20th Century Fox, with Paramount’s Bumblebee streeting that same day. On 4/16, look for Glass from Universal and DC Universe: Justice League vs. the Fatal Five from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. Universal is also quietly prepping 4K releases of the final two Fast & Furious films, otherwise known as Fast & Furious and Fast Five, for release likely in June when Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw arrives on home video. For you European 4K fans, it appears that Second Sight is going to be delivering their Zombie: 40th Anniversary Edition (aka George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead) on April 23 at least in France. We’ve learned that Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is prepping a 4K release of Godzilla (1998) for later this year, probably timed to the release of Warner’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters. And finally, a few little bird are whispering that Warner is likely to release The Wizard of Oz on the format later this year in honor of the film’s 80th anniversary. But consider that last one tentative until we can confirm more directly. I personally know for a fact the studio was working on the title last year, but we’ll have to wait and see if and when they announce it.
All right, some other announcement news...
Kino Lorber Studio Classics has just set Joseph Pevney’s The Strange Door (1951) for release on Blu-ray on 4/23, along with Joe May’s The House of the Seven Gables (1940), and Gordon Hessler’s Scream and Scream Again (1970). And on 4/16, look for Rouben Mamoulian’s Becky Sharp (1935), Anthony Mann’s Bend of the River (1952), Alex Cox’s Highway Patrolman (1991), and (for Scorpion Releasing) Alan Bridges’ Brief Encounter (1974).
Scream Factory has announced a new Blu-ray Collector’s Limited Edition (3,000 units) of Night of the Creeps for release on 5/28. But in an exclusive offer available only on the Shout website, you’ll also get a limited edition 8” tall Detective Ray Cameron (Tom Atkins) action figure from NECA. It’s available here for $69.99.
Other titles coming from Shout! and Scream on 5/28 include The Alligator People, Boom! Shout Select, To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar: Shout Select, and When a Stranger Calls.
Here’s a look at some new cover artwork for a few of the titles mentioned above, with Amazon.com pre-order links if available...
