We’ve got a trio of new disc reviews to round out the week today, including...

My thoughts on David Anspaugh’s Rudy (1993) which streets in 4K Ultra HD from Sony next Tuesday (11/14), featuring not only the original Theatrical Version but also a new Director’s Cut that’s 13 minutes longer.

Stephen’s take on Chuck Russell’s 1988 remake of The Blob in 4K UHD from Shout! and Scream Factory.

And Dennis’ take on Ron Winston’s The Gamblers (1970) on Blu-ray from VCI Entertainment.

More reviews are on the way, including my own look at Billy Wilder’s Stalag 17 (1953) in 4K from Kino Lorber Studio Classics. So be sure to watch for those soon.

We have three more new disc reviews for you today…

First up, Stephen has turned in his thoughts on Lucio Fulci’s The House by the Cemetery (1981) on 4K Ultra HD from Arrow Video in the UK.

Also, Tim has posted his thoughts on Jess Franco’s Lorna the Exorcist (1974) on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classic via their new Kino Cult line.

And finally, Stuart has weighed in with a review of Jack Smight’s Number One with a Bullet (1987), starring Robert Carradine and Billy Dee Williams, a Cannon title on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics.

There’s not a lot in the way of announcement news to report today, but we do have this: Paramount is releasing Lindsey Anderson Beer’s Pet Sematary: Bloodlines (2023) on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 12/19. Extras will include 5 featurettes (among them Origins, Fresh Blood, Death’s Design, Method to the Madness, and War Comes Home). You can see the 4K cover artwork at left.

CBS and Paramount are also preparing to release Star Trek: Lower Decks – Season Four on Blu-ray and DVD on 12/19. We don’t have the final cover artwork yet, but you can now pre-order the title on Amazon here. [Read on here...]

We’re starting the new week with a trio of disc reviews...

First up, I’ve posted my look at Dan Trachtenberg’s Prey (2022), which streets in long-awaited 4K Ultra HD on 10/3 from 20th Century Studios and Buena Vista Home Entertainment. And I’m pleased to say that the disc does not disappoint in terms of A/V quality.

Also today, Stuart has offered his thoughts on Compton Bennett and Andrew Marton’s King Solomon’s Mines (1950), as recently released on Blu-ray by The Warner Archive Collection.

And Tim has turned in his take on Ryan Meade’s Tom Sullivan documentary Invaluable: The True Story of an Epic Artist (2014) on Blu-ray from Synapse Films.

In terms of announcement news today, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has just announced a new Resident Evil: 6-Movie Collection 4K Ultra HD in Steelbook packaging. That’s due on 11/21. The set includes all 6 films in both Blu-ray and 4K, and all of the 4Ks will feature Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio, plus the previous 5.1 mixes. You can see the cover artwork at left. We know there are a lot of classic TV fans who read The Digital Bits, so this next bit of breaking news should be very welcome indeed!

CBS and Paramount have just announced the DVD release of Bonanza: The Official Complete Series on 5/23 (SRP $244.99)! The massive set includes all 14 seasons—431 episodes—on 112 discs, and the series has been completely remastered from the original 35 mm camera negatives.

Also coming to DVD that same day are Bonanza: The Complete Second Season (now in a single volume this time and also remastered—the previous release came in two volumes and was mastered from older, analog source material), as well as Bonanza: The Complete Twelfth Season, Bonanza: The Complete Thirteenth Season, and Bonanza: The Complete Fourteenth Season (SRP $50.99 each).

These will be welcome SKUs for those of you who have been purchasing these episodes on DVD all along.

Note that The Official Complete Series will come with an exclusive bonus disc containing nearly two and a half hours of rare special features. You’ll find all the details and cover art below the break. [Read on here...]

All right, we’ve got one more Star Trek 4K post for you today...

In addition to confirmation that the Star Trek: The Motion Picture – Director’s Edition is finally being restored in 4K Ultra HD (see our post here), Paramount Home Entertainment has officially announced that (as expected) the Star Trek: The Original 4-Movie Collection will indeed arrive in stores on 9/7 (9/6 in the UK, 9/8 in France, 9/9 in Germany).

An 8-disc set, it will include the newly-remastered films in BOTH 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray Disc formats (scanned in 4K from original elements), along with Digital codes for the Theatrical Cuts of each film. The remastered films will also be available as Blu-ray singles.

All of the 4K discs will include Dolby Vision HDR and HDR10 high dynamic range. We’re working to confirm the audio formats, but we believe that each will also include new Dolby Atmos sound mixes. [Editor’s Note: Scratch that. We’ve heard back officially from Paramount and have learned that each of the discs will include audio in 7.1 Dolby TrueHD format, as found on the previous Blu-ray releases.] [Read on here...]

Okay, we’ve got some big news for you today...

First though, we’ve posted a few new disc reviews in the last couple of days, including my own takes on Godzilla: King of the Monsters in 4K from Warner Bros, Air Force One in 4K from Sony Pictures, and Jonny Quest: The Complete Original Series on regular Blu-ray from Warner. Tim has also posted his thoughts on Shout! Factory’s new The Harder They Come: Collector’s Edition. All are work a look, so do check them out at the links provided.

Now then, let’s get to that news. First, this is not yet officially announced (even though we revealed it on social media a couple days ago), but retail links from various online sources confirm what we’ve been saying for a while now here at The Bits, namely that Warner will release The Wizard of Oz on 4K Ultra HD in October in honor of the film’s 80th anniversary. CBS Home Entertainment has set Star Trek: Discovery – Season Two for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 11/12. The 4-disc Blu-ray release will include audio commentary on 4 episodes (with various combinations of Sonequa Martin-Green, Anson Mount, Ethan Peck, Alex Kurtzman, Jonathan Peck, and Olatunde Onsunanmi), promos, deleted scenes, a gag reel, and 8 featurettes (Star Trek: Discovery: The Voyage of Season Two, Enter the Enterprise, The Red Angel, Designing Discovery: Season Two, Prop Me Up: Season Two, Dress for Success: Season Two, Creature Comforts: Season Two, and Creating Space).
