Afternoon, folks!  Hope you’re all having  a great start to your Thanksgiving holiday.  I know from e-mails that a lot of you are headed out to the movies in between shopping and Thanksgiving preparations.  Thor: The Dark World and Hunger Games: Catching Fire seem to be big draws.  I’ve seen the latter and it’s pretty decent.  If you like the first one, you’ll enjoy this one too.

For those of you in the L.A. area tonight, don’t forget that that screening of Ladyhawke at the Arclight is tonight at 7:30 PM, with Q&A to follow with director Richard Donner and producer Lauren Shuler Donner, moderated by our good friend Cliff Stephenson.  Tickets are still available here, but remember to plan a little extra travel time to get there – the President’s in town apparently, so there may be unexpected traffic delays.  [Read on here…]

We’ve got a new Blu-ray Disc review for you today: Our own Tim Salmons has checked in with a look at Scream Factory’s new Scanners II & III double feature release, so do check it out.  We’ll have a couple more reviews for you tomorrow as well, so be sure to check back then.

Thanks too for all the enthusiast response on our Zatoichi: The Blind Swordsman review from Monday – thousands of you have already read it and from the messages we’re getting, lots of you are excited to get your hands on it today.  You won’t be disappointed.

Our own Russell Hammond has once again posted this week’s Release Dates & Artwork update here at the site, featuring all the latest Blu-ray, DVD and Videogame cover artwork and Amazon.com pre-order links.  As always, a portion of anything you order from them after clicking through our links goes to help support our work here at the site and we sure do appreciate it.  Again, don’t forget that it’s Black Friday Week, so there are going to be all kinds of great deals on Amazon over the next several days.

In terms of announcement news, Blackened Recordings has announced the Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray and DVD release of Metallica: Trough the Never on 1/28.  You’ll get not only the live concert, but an 80-minute documentary, behind-the-scenes footage and much more.  There will be a couple of limited editions too – find out all the details here on the band’s official website.

Lionsgate has set Nurse Jackie: Season Five for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 2/18 (SRP $39.98 and $39.97).  Extras will include audio commentaries with the cast and crew, 2 featurettes (A Sober Jackie and New to the Floor), a gag reel and deleted scenes.  Also coming from Lionsgate that same day on Blu-ray 3D Combo and DVD is the horror comedy Hellbenders (SRP $24.99 and $19.98), with audio commentary and a pair of featurettes.  And Lionsgate and A&E have announced a Pride and Prejudice: Keepsake Edition for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 1/15 (SRP $29.99 and $19.98), featuring a trio of featurettes.  The film stars Colin Firth.

Here’s something cool for you Bogart fans:  Warner has set The Best of Bogart Collection for release on Blu-ray on 3/25 (SRP $49.99) featuring The Maltese Falcon, Casablanca, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre and (via Paramount) The African Queen.  The set will also include vintage art cards for each film, as well as all the extras previously available with these films individually.

The Best of Bogart Collection (Blu-ray Disc)

And are any of you on Warner Archive Instant?  They’ve just made the second season of The Man from U.N.C.L.E. available for streamed viewing.

All right, that’s all for now.  Back tomorrow with a couple more reviews.  Stay tuned…
