Let’s start the day today with another new View from the Cheap Seats column from our very own Bud Elder, the cinematic Oracle of Oklahoma City!  As usual, Bud covers a range of film-related subjects – that I don’t wish to spoil here – and his thoughts are all worth reading.  Don’t miss it!

Meanwhile, back in Gotham City... Amazon.com is now taking pre-orders on the eventual Blu-ray release Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium.  Expect that to hit stores sometime right before Christmas we’d guess from Sony.  […]

In announcement news today, Shout! Factory and EuropaCorp have set Luc Besson’s The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec: Director’s Cut for release on Blu-ray Combo on 10/1 (SRP $24.97).  Extras will include The Making of The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec, deleted scenes and a music featurette.

Gaiam Vivendi Entertainment and Sonar Entertainment have set Barabbas for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 9/24, starring Billy Zane (SRP $29.95 and $19.97).

Anchor Bay Entertainment and RADiUS-TWC have set Only God Forgives for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 10/22, starring Ryan Gosling and Kristin Scott Thomas.

CBS and Paramount have set Vegas: The DVD Edition for release on DVD only on 9/17 (SRP $64.99).  All 21 episodes of the series will be includes, plus extras.

Lionsgate has the documentary Dear Mom, Love Cher coming on DVD on 9/24.  Lionsgate has also set Showtime’s Weeds: The Complete Collection for release on Blu-ray Disc on 11/5 (SRP $119.97).  All the previous extras will be includes, along with 4 all-new featurettes exclusive to this set.

Universal has set Scoot and Kassie’s Christmas Adventure for release on 11/5.

Finally, Paramount is holding a “live Tweet” event tonight (Tweet into Darkness?) to celebrate the digital release of Star Trek into Darkness.  It starts at 7:30 PM Pacific.  Participating will be director J.J. Abrams, co-producer/writer Roberto Orci and visual effects supervisor Roger Guyett.  Fans can watch the film and “tweet alongside” them.  Here’s the link to visit to participate.  Speaking of, there’s a behind the scenes clip on YouTube here and the studio has launched a Defeat Khan website too where you can create your own avatar.  There’s also “multiple exclusive concept art images debuting today from Xbox SmartGlass.  The images have a code that users can enter on the Defeat Khan website for a chance to win a trip to see Star Trek into Darkness live orchestrated in London by Michael Giacchino.  Users can find out where these images are from the website.”  So there’s that.

And that’s all for now.  Stay tuned!
