We have four new disc reviews for you to enjoy today, along with some release news...

First, I’ve taken a look at the long-awaited physical 4K Ultra HD release of Joseph Kosinski’s Top Gun: Maverick from Paramount. You’ll be glad to know that the disc’s A/V quality is demo worthy, though the extras are somewhat wanting and you have to buy the Blu-ray version separately.

Stephen has offered up a review of Tobe Hooper’s Poltergeist, also in 4K Ultra HD from Warner Bros. And he’s got a review of Rob Zombie’s The Munsters on regular Blu-ray as well from Universal.

Finally, Tim has reviewed a film that was thought to be lost but has now been re-discovered and restored for Blu-ray release: George A. Romero’s The Amusement Park (1975) from Shudder and RLJ Entertainment.

More reviews are definitely on the way, so be sure to watch for them.

And we’ve also posted a major update of our Release Dates & Artwork section here at The Bits (listed as Cover Art in the navigation bar above), featuring a ton of new Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD cover images and Amazon.com pre-order links. As always, anytime you order literally anything from Amazon after clicking through to them from one of our links, you’re helping to support our work here at The Bits and we really appreciate it! (Thanks to our own Russell Hammond for his work on that section.) [Read on here...]

In announcement news today, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has just made Spike Jonze’s Adaptation official for 4K Ultra HD release on 12/6. Newly-remastered from the original camera negative, the disc will include Dolby Vision HDR, a new Dolby Atmos mix and the original theatrical 5.1 mix in DTS-HD MA. Special features will include the Behind the Scenes in the Swamp featurette and a theatrical trailer. You can see the cover artwork below.

Sony has also just released a Digital only Spider-Man: No Way Home – Extended Version, which features 11 minutes of additional scenes. So now it makes sense why the deleted scenes that were originally meant to be included on the theatrical version Blu-ray and 4K UHD release were removed at the last minute. Unfortunately, there’s no word yet as to whether there will be a physical release of this Extended Version at some point.

Lionsgate has announced that the next entry in their Vestron Video Collector’s Series will be a Silent Night, Deadly Night Collection on Blu-ray on 12/13. The package will offer Silent Night, Deadly Night 3: Better Watch Out!, Silent Night, Deadly Night 4: Initiation, and Silent Night, Deadly Night 5: The Toy Maker, along with extras that include audio commentaries, new interview featurettes, and legacy content.

Also coming from Lionsgate on Digital only is Who Is Christmas Eve? on 12/13.

Special edition producer Eric D. Wilkinson has just revealed that MVD Entertainment will be releasing Barry Levinson’s Best Picture-winning film Rain Man (1988) in 4K Ultra HD as part of the MVD Marquee Collection. Look for it in February, specifically 2/21/23. The release is happening in honor of the film’s 35th anniversary. There will be a remastered Blu-ray release as well. This title is already available for pre-order on Amazon and you can see the cover art above left and also below.

Coming in January 2023 to Blu-ray as part of the MVD Rewind Collection is a loaded special edition of Boaz Davidson’s The Last American Virgin (1982).

From Full Moon Pictures, look for Puppet Master 3: Tulon’s Revenge on 4K Ultra HD on 1/24/23.

RLJE Films will release Christian Sesma’s Section 8 on Blu-ray and DVD on 11/15.

Music Box Films Home Entertainment has announced Lost Illusions (Blu-ray and DVD) for release on 11/8, followed by Medusa (Blu-ray and DVD) and The Story of Film: A New Generation (DVD only) on 11/22, and Please Baby Please (Digital only) on 11/19.

Well Go USA will release Emergency Declaration on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital on 11/19.

Scream Factory has announced some new details of their 12/6 and 12/13 4K Ultra HD releases of Black Christmas (1974) and Carrie (1976). Black Christmas will include a new 4K scan of the original camera negative as well as restorations of the original mono track and the 5.1 audio (which includes restoring missing dialogue, music, and sound effects). The disc will also include audio commentary with director Bob Clark, a new Black Christmas: Restoring the Sound featurette, as well as a Newspaper Ad Gallery by Drive-In Asylum. All of this is in addition to many legacy special features. Carrie will also include a new 4K scan of the original camera negative, a new audio commentary by Joe Aisenberg, and another Newspaper Ad Gallery by Drive-In Asylum. Again, this is in addition to the legacy special features.

And finally, Mill Creek Entertainment’s November slate will include The Most Dangerous Game (Blu-ray and DVD), Love in Wolf Creek (DVD), Christmas in Wolf Creek (DVD), Country Roads Christmas (DVD), Christmas in Rockwell (DVD), and A Ring for Christmas (DVD) on 11/8, followed by Ultraman Max: The Complete Series (DVD) and Ultraman Nexus: The Complete Series + Ultraman: The Next (DVD) on 11/15.

We’ll leave you today with a look at the cover artwork for a few of the titles mentioned above and more, all of which are now available for pre-order on Amazon by clicking on the images...
