Celebrating CE3K’s 40th, Interstellar/Transformers 4K & Pink Panther cartoon BDs official & we answer the question “Why No 3D?”
All right, we’ve got a few things for you today...
First, our own Michael Coate posted a great new History, Legacy & Showmanship retrospective last night celebrating Steven Spielberg’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind on the occasion of the film’s 40th anniversary. Michael’s column looks back at the film’s initial theatrical run and features another great roundtable discussion of film historians. It’s a good read, so be sure to give it a look.
Now then... a quick commentary. Almost every day, I get asked this question in some form via email or social media: “Why no 3D?” As in: My favorite film was available in 3D in the theater, but how come the studio didn’t release it on Blu-ray 3D for the home? [Read on here…]

Happy Halloween, everyone! Today is just a quick update, as there’s not a lot of news to report and we know many of you have plans for the evening.
However, we’ve got a pair of new Blu-ray reviews for you to enjoy today, including Tim’s look at Scream Factory’s Dawn of the Dead (2004) and also Red Christmas from Artsploitation Films. Enjoy!
In announcement news today, Kino Lorber has revealed that they’re working on new Blu-ray and DVD editions of Dan Curtis’ Trilogy of Terror (1975) for release in 2018. The company has also set Cadillac Man (1991) for Blu-ray release on 1/2/18. [Read on here…]

Afternoon, everyone! We’ve got a couple new disc reviews to start the new week: Tim has taken a look at Umbrella Entertainment’s Aussie (but all-region) Blu-ray edition of Cat’s Eye as well as Shout! Factory’s new Mystery Science Theater 3000: Volume VI DVD set. We have more disc reviews coming tomorrow too, including a pair of new 4K Ultra HD reviews, so do check back.

All right, we’ve got a couple more pieces of announcement news for you today, along with a TON of new cover artwork...
The news is that Shout! Factory has officially set the Matinee: Collector’s Edition as their next Shout Select Blu-ray release on 12/12, along with the comedy The Trip to Spain, starring Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon. Interestingly, Shout! has also announced a new 4K Ultra HD title for release that same day: IMAX: Mysteries of China. They also have Howard Lovecraft and the Undersea Kingdom coming on 12/5.
Meanwhile, Scream Factory has set American Gothic (1988) for Blu-ray release on 12/19, and has the Hell Night: Collector’s Edition coming on BD on 12/12, as well as the Silent Night, Deadly Night: Collector’s Edition on 12/5, as we mentioned yesterday. [Read on here…]
