We’ve got two more new disc reviews for you to enjoy this afternoon...

Tim has turned in his thoughts on Norman Jewison’s In the Heat of the Night (1967) in 4K Ultra HD from our friends at Kino Lorber Studio Classics.

Tim has also taken a look at Robert Fuest’s The Abominable Dr. Phibes (1971) and Dr. Phibes Rises Again (1972), which are available in a new Blu-ray double feature also from Kino Lorber Studio Classics.

In announcement news today, Universal has officially set Downton Abbey: A New Era for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 7/5. The 4K will include Dolby Atmos audio and Dolby Vision HDR. Extras will include audio commentary with director Simon Curtis, plus 6 featurettes (Good to Be Back, Return to Downton Abbey: The Making of a New Era, A Legendary Character, Creating the Film Within the Film, Spill the Tea (Time), and Her Majesty’s Yacht Britannia). The big piece of announcement news today is that Universal Studios Home Entertainment has set Paul Thomas Anderson’s excellent and Best Picture-nominated film Licorice Pizza for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 5/17. The Digital version is already available (including 4K), though there are no current plans for a physical 4K Ultra HD release. Extras on the Blu-ray will include camera tests, a deleted scene, a Fat Bernie’s Commercial, and a Behind-the-Scenes featurette. You can see the cover artwork at left and also below.

Also, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has officially set The Boys: Seasons 1 & 2 Collection for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 5/17. Of course, the Amazon-exclusive series is already available for streaming on Amazon Prime. This release is no doubt timed to support the 6/3 debut of Season 3 on Prime. Extras on the discs will include deleted scenes and a blooper real for each season, plus Butcher: A Short Film. Again, you can see the cover artwork below.

One hopes that the this means Sony might consider releasing other series it produces for streamers on physical media eventually, including (hopefully) Apple TV’s outstanding For All Mankind (which I’d kill to own on physical 4K). [Read on here...]

Let’s start with the big news first: Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has just set Clint Eastwood’s The Mule for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 4/2, with the Digital release expected on 3/19. There’s no indication of Dolby Vision in the press release, so I would assume HDR10. Audio on both the Blu-ray and 4K is expected to be DTS-HD MA. Extras will include the Nobody Runs Forever: The Making of The Mule featurette and a Toby Keith music video. You can see the cover artwork at left and also below.

Also today, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has just announced the Blu-ray and DVD release of Barry Jenkins’ If Beale Street Could Talk on 3/26, with the Digital release expected on 3/12. No physical 4K UHD release is currently planned. Audio on the Blu-ray is DTS-HD MA with extras including audio commentary by Barry Jenkins, the If Beale Street Could Talk: Poetry in Motion featurette, and deleted scenes.
