Let’s kick things off today with a pair of new Blu-ray reviews, shall we? Tim has given a pair of recent titles from Criterion a look in lovely, 1080p high-definition, including Charlie Chaplin’s Limelight (1952) and Jaromil Jireš’ Valerie and Her Week of Wonders (1970). The big news today is that Disney and Marvel have now officially set Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron for Blu-ray 3D Combo, Blu-ray Combo and DVD release on 10/2, with the digital release expected on 9/8. Extras on the Blu-ray seem to still be TBA, but are expected to include audio commentary, deleted scenes, a series or “making of” featurettes, and a gag reel. First, our own Joe Marchese has turned in a look at Kino Lorber’s recent BD edition of Hal Walker’s At War with the Army (1950), starring Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis. Also today, Doogan has taken a nice deep dive into P.T. Anderson’s fascinating Inherent Vice – now on Blu-ray from Warner Home Video – and found it worthy of your time.
