We’ve also just posted a new update of our 4K Ultra HD Release List featuring new street dates and Amazon links. Among the new street dates we’re hearing about from our retail sources are Sony’s Venom (TBA for 12/18), as well as Warner’s Smallfoot (also TBA for 12/18) and The Nun (TBA for 12/4). [Editor’s Note: The Venom and Smallfoot dates appear to be changing. Check out next post for the details.]
Now then... we have an update on a couple things from yesterday: First, that German Turbine Media Group/Universal Psycho Legacy Collection: Deluxe Edition Blu-ray box set. Some of you have asked what the European uncut version of the Hitchcock original Psycho is all about. Per Wikipedia: “A version with alternate footage of Norman cleaning up after the murder and additional footage of Marion undressing and Arbogast’s death has been shown on German TV and released on VHS there. Sources differ on whether these cuts were made prior to U.S. release.” For those who’d like to know more about this cut, the website Deadly Movies did a good write-up on the subject several years back (here it is). FYI, we’ve learned from Turbine that the disc will be all-region (coded for A, B, and C) and they will have original English audio (in addition to German). It also appears that the set will include the 78/52 documentary. Once again, you can pre-order it here from Amazon.de. Thanks to Bits reader Andrew for the additional details.
And the other follow-up item: Universal’s Revenge of the Creature/The Creature Walks Among Us replacement discs have indeed begun shipping out to those who requested them. We’re getting more and more reports from readers that their copies have arrived. But note that they’re shipping out FedEx signature required for delivery (this is pretty standard for Universal; all their review discs ship this way too), so plan accordingly.
All right... one last item today: A number of filmmakers have gotten behind a Change.org signature campaign effort to generate enough momentum to save TCM and Criterion’s FilmStruck. I suppose the goal is to get enough signatures to convince new corporate overlord AT&T that the service is more than just a niche. But among those who are backing the efforts are Guillermo del Toro, Rian Johnson, Edgar Wright, Bill Hader, Barry Jenkins, and many others. We’ve signed it here at The Bits and we encourage you to do so as well. At last check, the campaign was just a few thousand signatures short of their 50,000 signature goal, so do help them out and spread the word far and wide. You never know, right?
That’s all for today. Back on Monday with more news and reviews. And for those of you who live here in California, stay safe in all these terrible fires we’re having.
Much love to all of you. Peace out.
