Well… it goes without saying that there’s nothing we could reveal here today that would be nearly as exciting as yesterday’s announcement by Criterion that they’re delivering a whopping 25-film Zatoichi: The Blind Swordsman Blu-ray box set in November.  Our collective heads are still reeling from that awesome news here at The Bits today!

But we do have a couple release news odds and ends to report today… […]

First up, Warner Home Video has announced a new JFK: 50 Year Commemorative Ultimate Edition Blu-ray box set release of Oliver Stone’s JFK due on 11/12 (SRP $59.99).  The 50 years obviously refers to the anniversary of Kennedy’s death in November 1963.  New extras in the set will appear to include the JFK Remembered: 50 Years Later documentary and also the classic film PT-109 on DVD for the first time ever.  The 1964 John F. Kennedy: Years of Lightning, Day of Drums documentary has also been remastered for inclusion in the set.  All of the previous extras will also carry over, including audio commentary by Stone, deleted and extended scenes, the alternate ending and much more.  The packaging will also include a 32-page book or quotations, a reproduction of JFK’s Inaugural Address, 20 photos and 16 pieces of correspondence reproduced for the set from the JFK Presidential Library, a 44-page photo book and 6 character cards from the film.  Here’s a look at the packaging…

Warner is also releasing a pair of new Samuel Goldwyn titles on DVD on 12/10 (SRP $14.97 each), including The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and Stella Dallas.  See artwork below.  Here’s hoping Warner announces the return of Wuthering Heights (1939) to DVD (and also BD) soon.

Meanwhile, StarVista Entertainment and Time Life are finally releasing the TV series China Beach on DVD at retail, with the debut of China Beach: The Complete Season One on 10/1 (SRP $22.95).  As you may already know, they released a Complete Series box set on DVD online earlier this year.

Anchor Bay Entertainment has just set the classic Anthony Quinn catalog films Lion of the Desert and The Message for release on Blu-ray Disc on 11/12 (SRP $19.99 each)!  See the cover art below.

Image and RLJ are releasing Evidence on Blu-ray and DVD on 8/20.  They also have Stranded coming on both formats on 8/27.

Lionsgate has set Power Rangers Megaforce: Ultimate Team Power – Volume 1 for DVD release on 9/3.  Lionsgate also has the surfing film Drift coming on Blu-ray Combo and DVD on 9/17, followed by the comedy special Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain on both Blu-ray Combo and DVD on 10/15.

Shout! Factory has set Aaahh!!! Real Monsters: The Complete Series for DVD release on 10/8.

Entertainment One will release Wish You Were Here on DVD on 9/10.

Well Go USA Entertainment has Johnny To’s Drug War coming on Blu-ray and DVD on 10/15.

Here’s a look at the cover artwork for Warner’s The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and Stella Dallas on DVD, as well as new Blu-ray art Universal’s Love Actually: 10th Anniversary Edition (due 10/15) and The Purge (10/8), and Anchor Bay’s Lion of the Desert and The Message
