Before we begin today, I want to call attention to a pair of great new History, Legacy and Showmanship columns by our own Michael Coate that went up here while I was away: 007… Fifty Years Strong (featuring interviews with noted Bond franchise historians) and Cleopatra: The Roadshow Engagements (looking back at the roadshow history of the film on the occasion of its 50th anniversary).  Both are well worth your time, so do check them out.

All right, the big catalog news from the last week is that Warner and Paramount are releasing Friday the 13th: The Complete Collection on Blu-ray on 9/13 (SRP $129.95 – it’s just $91 on Amazon).  The set will include all 10 original films plus Freddy vs. Jason and the 2009 remake (7 of which are new to Blu-ray), 11 hours of all-new extras, a Killer Bonus DVD disc with additional extras, a 40-page book with excerpts from Crystal Lake Memories, a Cam Crystal Lake counselor patch and limited tin packaging.  You can see the cover art below.  Warner has also set Paramount’s Airplane II: The Sequel for BD release on 10/8.

Warner Home Video has also set The Exorcist: 40th Anniversary Edition – Extended Director’s Cut for Blu-ray release on 10/8.  Yes… this film has now got to be high in the running for the most re-released title on either Blu-ray and DVD.  The set (SRP $49.99) will include both the Extended Director’s Cut and Theatrical Version, plus all the previous extras and the all-new Beyond Comprehension: William Peter Blatty’s The Exorcist and Talk of the Devil documentaries.  You’ll also get a booklet containing an excerpt from The Friedkin Connection: A Memoir.  Let’s hope this anniversary edition announcement means that a Blu-ray release of The Right Stuff: 30th Anniversary Edition is soon to be revealed by WHV as well.

Warner has also set the CW’s Arrow: The Complete First Season for Blu-ray and DVD release on 9/17.

Warner, New Line and Turner will release Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, In the Mouth of Madness and the Robert Wise film The Haunting (1963) on Blu-ray on 10/15.

And Warner and DC Animation will release Robot Chicken: DC Comics Special on Blu-ray and DVD on 7/9.

Meanwhile, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has announced the 8/6 Blu-ray/DVD Combo release of the Best Picture-winning Cavalcade (1933).  Extras will include audio commentary by film historian Richard Schickel and the Fox Movietone News: Cavalcade Wins First Honors newsreel.

Starz and Anchor Bay are releasing the 1976 classic Silver Streak (starring Gene Wilder, Jill Clayburgh and Richard Pryor on Blu-ray on 8/6.  That same day, they’re also releasing Lucas (1986) and The Pick-Up Artist (1987) on Blu-ray.

Starz and Anchor Bay have also set Da Vinci’s Demons: The Complete First Season for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 9/3 (SRP %54.99 and $44.98).  Extras will include audio commentaries with the cast and crew, a series of featurette and delete scenes.

Shout! Factory has set a Power Rangers: Seasons 4-7 DVD box set for release on 7/30, including 183 episodes and a disc of bonus features.  SRP is $129.99.

On 8/20 (and for you music fans) look for Graham Parker & The Rumor: This Is Live on Blu-ray and DVD on 8/20.  For those of you who have seen Judd Apatow’s This Is 40, this is the concert that was filmed by Apatow in full (at the Belasco Theater in downtown Los Angeles) and featured in a scene in the movie.

Shout! has also set Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie for Blu-ray/DVD Collector’s Edition Combo release on 9/3.  Extras will include 3 featurettes (The Making of Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie, The Making of Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie – The Motion Picture Odyssey and This Island Earth: 2 ½ Years in the Making) and deleted scenes.

Sony will release the Best Picture-nominated film Amour for Blu-ray and DVD release on 8/20, due to include The Making of Amour featurette and a Q&A with director Michael Haneke.
