You can read more details about those titles here, but for those interested, War and Peace will include the new 2K restoration with 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio, new interviews (with cinematographer Anatoly Petritsky and filmmaker Fedor Bondarchuk, son of Sergei Bondarchuk), 2 1966 documentaries about the making of the film, a TV program from 1967 (profiling actor Ludmila Savelyeva, and featuring Sergei Bondarchuk), a new program with historian Denise J. Youngblood (Bondarchuk’s War and Peace: Literary Classic to Soviet Cinematic Epic) detailing the cultural and historical contexts for the film, the Janus re-release trailer, a new English subtitle translation, and an essay by critic Ella Taylor. Magnificent news!
We’ve updated the Criterion Spines Project here at The Bits to include these titles, and you can see the cover artwork below. (The 4K titles shown are available for pre-order now on Amazon. We’ll add the Criterion pre-order links as soon as they’re available.)...
Also today, in a little piece of film industry news, Disney has just officially rehired James Gunn to direct Guardians of the Galaxy 3. You can read more on that here at Deadline Hollywood.
So there you go. Not bad for a Friday.
That’s all for now. Stay tuned!
