We’ve a couple of quick items for you here at The Bits today. Tim has just turned in a review of Kino Lorber’s A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, a 1966 film by director Richard Lester. Also, our own Russell Hammond has updated the Release Dates & Artwork section with all the latest Blu-ray and DVD cover artwork and Amazon.com pre-order links. Remember that any time you order virtually anything from Amazon after clicking through our links here at The Bits, you’re helping to support our work and we really do appreciate it.  [Read on here…]

Let’s get right to the star of today’s update here in The Bits, shall we?

Our very own Dr. Adam Jahnke has just posted his overall review of Scream Factory and Anchor Bay’s terrific new Halloween: The Complete Collection – Deluxe Edition Blu-ray box set! Jahnke talks overall quality and content, and reviews the first three films in the set. You can also look at this review as a preview of this year’s Hell Plaza Oktoberfest (which kicks off on 10/1), for which he’ll review all the rest of the films in the set plus a whole lot more. The good news is: This is finally the Halloween set you’ve been waiting for. Enjoy!  [Read on here…]

We’ve got a bunch of stuff for you to enjoy here at The Bits today, starting with a trio of new columns here at the site.

First, the good Dr. Jahnke has turned in his latest installment of Burnt Offerings: MOD DVD, running down the latest in small batch, hand crafted DVDs and Blu-rays. He’s also added new component to the column that he’s calling Wide Awake in Streamland, which details worth deep catalog film and TV titles available for streaming via Warner Archive Instant, Netflix, Hulu Plus and the like. Be sure to check it out.

Also today, our own Michael Coate unloads both barrels of his History, Legacy and Showmanship column to celebrate the 50th anniversaries of TV’s Bewitched and the seminal James Bond film Goldfinger! For each column Michael conducts a roundtable discussion with film historians and experts. You definitely don’t want to miss them – here’s the Bewitched piece and here’s Goldfinger. Enjoy!  [Read on here…]

Welcome to a new week. We’re kicking things off today with a great new Blu-ray review – Tim’s taken a look at Warner’s new Godzilla in 1080p, directed by Gareth Edwards (previously known for his clever Monsters). Sounds like the disc’s picture and sound quality deliver nicely, if not the extras. Do check it out.  [Read on here…]
