We’re closing out the week here at The Bits with a little bit of news and a bunch of “classic” Blu-ray reviews.

I’ve gone back and updated five Blu-ray reviews I did for the old Bits website and added them into the review database here at the new site. Longtime readers will probably have read them when we first posted them years ago, but they’ll be brand new for some of you that have only discovered The Bits recently. Included are my thoughts onTimur Bekmambetov’s Night Watch and Day Watch, Mel Gibson’s Braveheart: Sapphire Series, Steven Spielberg’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (the original 2-disc special edition), and finally the sports classic Rudy, starring Sean Astin. All are great films and are well worth your time, so if you haven’t seen them yet, do check them out. Enjoy the reviews!  [Read on here…]

We’ve got some good announcement news for you today, so let’s get right to it...

First up... Universal has set The Boxtrolls for Blu-ray and DVD release on 1/20/15. They also have a triple feature Blu-ray set of all three Laika stop-motion films, The Boxtrolls, ParaNorman, and Coraline, coming that same day.  [Read on here…]

We’ve got a couple things for you today…

First up this afternoon, I’ve written a review of Eagle Rock Entertainment’s Monty Python Live (Mostly): One Down, Five to Go on Blu-ray, which is an HD presentation of the final Python reunion stage show recorded on 7/20/14 at The O2 in London. If you’re a fan of the Pythons, you’re definitely not going to want to miss it.  [Read on here…]

Good morning, dear readers! I trust this post finds you all in a better mood than the one I’m currently experiencing. I’m stuck at a car dealership getting a recalled part replaced and drinking really lousy coffee out of a styrofoam cup. (Which is why I posted the picture of Terry Gilliam today - he looks the way I feel right now in that picture.) But... at least there’s wifi. To quote Russell Crowe from a favorite film of mine, “What a fascinating modern age we live in.” Points if you can guess which film on our Facebook page.

Anyway, there may or may not be more news today than what I’ve got for you here, but this is what I have access too from the service center waiting room. I’ll update you on anything else tomorrow. Meanwhile, here’s what’s what for now… [Read on here…]

We’re pleased today to present the final review of Adam’s month-long Hell Plaza Oktoberfest 8 here at The Bits: It’s none other than the 1977 zombie/Nazi classic Shock Waves, directed by Ken Wiederhorn and presented on Blu-ray by Blue Underground! Congrats to Adam on another great Oktoberfest. We trust you all enjoyed it. If you did, be sure to send a little thanks and appreciation to Adam over on his Jahnke’s Electric Theater Facebook page.

Also here at The Bits today, we’ve got Bud Elder’s new View from the Cheap Seats column. This month, Bud asks the question: “What Movies Changed the Way You Look at Life?” He posts his own answer to this question, and challenges each of you to share your own lists too.  [Read on here…]

All right, we’ve got a couple cool things of you guys today, plus we’re issuing a challenge to the folks in charge at Warner Home Video. More on that in a sec.

First, the good Dr. Jahnke has just posted his penultimate Blu-ray review in this year’s Hell Plaza Oktoberfest, and it’s a Christmas crossover horror classic: The Silent Night, Deadly Night: 30th Anniversary Edition from Anchor Bay!

We’d like to take a moment to give a hearty Bits “Huzzah!” to Jahnke for having completed his work on this year’s Fest! The final review of the season is in the can as they say, and it’s a goodun. So check back tomorrow for that. Well done, Adam!  [Read on here…]

Okay… my apologies for the lack of a daily column yesterday. I find myself unexpectedly fighting a computer problem that’s keeping me from getting a lot of regular work done. So I’ve been stuck here in the lab pulling my hair out like a mad scientist for quite a few hours. Hope to have that resolved by the end of the day today.

Meanwhile, we are not without content for you to enjoy here at The Bits today!  [Read on here…]
