Tim has checked in with a look at Flavio Mogherini’s The Pyjama Girl Case (1977) on Blu-ray from Arrow Video.

Also from Arrow, Dennis has offered his thoughts on Fred Zinnemann’s The Day of the Jackal (1973) on Blu-ray.

David has turned in a look at William Whitney’s A Strange Adventure (1956) on Blu-ray from our friends at Kino Lorber Studio Classics.

And we have another review addition to The Bits’ review staff today, Matthew Weflen, who’s got a look at Christopher Nolan’s The Prestige (2006) on 4K Ultra HD. You can find that in the Christopher Nolan Collection 4K box set.

Many more Blu-ray and DVD reviews are coming; I’m personally working on 4K reviews of Ant-Man and the Wasp, The Evil Dead, and Hook, with more on the way. So watch for those over the next few days. [Read on here...]

All right, before I get started today, I wanted to post a quick personal note to say thank you for all the kind words and messages after my post last week. I’ve really appreciated them.

We’re going to check back tomorrow with a TON of new Blu-ray and 4K reviews (including Disney and Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp), but I wanted to check in with an update this afternoon.

All right, we’re closing out the week with just a couple of items for you…

First up, we’ve posted a trio of new reviews for you including Tim’s look at Stuart Gordon’s Dagon from Umbrella Entertainment, David’s take on Harry Levin’s Genghis Khan (1965) from Twilight Time, and Dennis’ thoughts on Dark Crimes from Lionsgate, all three on Blu-ray.

We now have official final cover artwork for Universal’s The Big Lebowski on 4K Ultra HD. It’s due on 10/16 and it will feature a native 4K scan of the film with DTS-X object based audio. It will also include the previous Blu-ray edition, with all its extras, and a digital copy. You can pre-order it now on Amazon by clicking on the artwork below.

Side note about Universal… the company appears to be reissuing a whole bunch of catalog titles on Blu-ray throughout the month of October. Deep catalog stuff. So if you’ve missed any titles, you’ll probably find that a new edition is coming then. [Read on here...]

All right, let’s have a quick update with more breaking release news…

Many months after we first told you it was coming, Universal is finally bringing The Big Lebowski to 4K Ultra HD on 10/16, with both regular and limited editions available (the latter can be seen below, packed with swag). We’re awaiting the official announcement, but both are now listed for pre-order on Amazon.com (click here and here to see them).

Also, the studio is releasing a Jurassic World: 5-Film Collection on 4K Ultra HD on 9/18, day and date with the home video release of Jurassic Park: Fallen Kingdom on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K. So those of you who waited to pick up all the earlier films in 4K hoping for a 5-film box, now’s your chance. You can see the cover art art right and you can pre-order it here.

Note that we’ve updated the 4K Ultra HD Release List here at The Bits with this information and pre-order links for a number of additional upcoming 4K titles. [Read on here...]

We’ve got three new Blu-ray reviews for you to enjoy today, including David Steigman’s look at Eli Roth’s Death Wish remake and Phillipe de Broca’s 1966 French drama King of Hearts. We’ve also got Dennis Sueling’s thoughts on Jonas Carpignano’s Italian drama A Ciambra. All three are new or recently released on Blu-ray and are worth a look.

In announcement news today, 20th Century Fox has finally officially announced their Predator and Predator 3-Movie Collection on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on 8/7. A limited edition Steelbook version of the collection will be available at Best Buy and FYE stores. Extras on the Predator will include audio commentary by director John McTiernan, a text commentary by film historian Eric Lichtenfeld, Predator: Evolution of a Species-Hunters of Extreme Perfection, If It Bleeds, We Can Kill It: The Making of Predator, multiple Special Effects and Inside the Predator featurettes, Short Takes with the Filmmakers, deleted scenes and outtakes, a photo gallery, and a Predator Profile.

Audio on all of these films will be in English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. Predator and Predator 2 were finished on film and should be new 4K film scans, while Predators is a 2K DI upsample. All right, we’re going to have a bunch of new disc reviews for you starting tomorrow. I’m wrapping up the Jurassic Park 25th Anniversary Collection in 4K Ultra HD and Tim is working on a whole mess of new Blu-ray reviews as well. Watch for them soon.

Meanwhile, we have a bit of release news for you today...We have a street date from our retail and industry sources for 20th Century Fox’s Deadpool 2. Look for it on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 8/21. Keep in mind, this isn’t official until it’s announced by the studio.

Also, it looks like the street date for Disney’s The Incredibles on 4K Ultra HD has been delayed a week to 6/12. Adjust your plans accordingly. [Editor’s Note: It looks like the street date may still be 6/5 after all. The 6/12 date comes from Best Buy sources but isn’t being reported by other retailers. So probably best to assume it’s still 6/5 after all.] Our 4K Ultra HD Release List here at The Bits has been updated to reflect this. [Read on here...]
