Now them, the big news first: Criterion has just officially announced their August, which is set to include Josh and Benny Safdie’s Daddy Longlegs (2009 – Spine #1138 – Blu-ray) and Ronald Bronstein’s Frownland (2007 – Spine #1137 – Blu-ray) on 8/16, followed by Marcel Carné’s Hôtel du Nord (1938 – Spine #1139 – Blu-ray and DVD) and Sidney Poitier’s Buck and the Preacher (1972 – Spine #1140 – Blu-ray) on 8/23, and finally Jessica Beshir’s Faya dayi (2021 – Spine #1141 – Blu-ray and DVD) on 8/30. Paramount has announced a new Blu-ray Steelbook release of Friday the 13th: Part 3, which is now available at your favorite retailer.
Shudder and RLJE Films will release Brendan Muldowney’s The Cellar on Blu-ray and DVD on 6/21.
Music Box Films is releasing Kentucker Audley and Albert Birney’s Strawberry Mansion on Blu-ray and DVD on 6/21 as well.
Blue Fox Entertainment and Breaking Glass Pictures have set Anita Rivaroli’s music documentary We Are the Thousand (2020) for Digital and limited theatrical release on 6/3. Note that the film has a big Foo Fighters connection of any of you are fans of the band.
Our friends at Blue Underground have set Ferdinando Baldi comedy/spaghetti western Get Mean (1975 – aka Time Breaker) for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 8/23. They’ll also release Lee Frost’s schlock exploitation film Love Camp 7 (1969) on Blu-ray and DVD that same day.
Here’s something interesting: Universal is releasing the classic The A-Team: The Complete Series as a 21-disc Manufactured on Demand (MOD) Blu-ray box set on 6/28. SRP is about $80. We can’t yet speak to the quality of the remastering or what extras may be included if any, but you can see the cover artwork below. It looks like individual seasons of the series will be available as well. You can pre-order it here on Amazon.
And finally, for your fans of Space: 1999, Network in the UK is releasing a new Space 1999: The Ultimate Collection Blu-ray box set (Region B only). This is basically just a repackage of their existing Season One and Two Blu-ray sets, along with the recent Super Space Theater Blu-ray remasters of the four theatrical films that were produced using various episodes of the series. The 18-disc set is now available and you can see it below. Just be aware, if you already have the Network sets, this package contains nothing new.
In other Blu-ray news today, our friends at Random Space Media have updated their information about the forthcoming Australian Blu-ray 3D release of Spider-Man: No Way Home this coming July or August (street date is TBA). Unfortunately, it looks like (per Sony orders) the title will be Region B locked and not all region as the company originally believed. Here’s their official statement on the matter:
In non-disc, Phil Tippett’s long awaited stop-motion masterpiece Mad God is coming exclusively to the streaming service Shudder on 6/16. And it officially looks bat-shit bananas incredible. You can see the trailer here (we sure hope Shudder is bringing it to disc later this year as well)...
And speaking of things we’re excited to see here at The Bits, Apple TV+ has just dropped the full trailer for the forthcoming new season of the Ron Moore alternate history/space exploration drama For All Mankind. It begins airing on the streaming service on 6/10, and I can’t wait for it. Here’s that trailer...
