Pick-Ups for the Week of February 1, 2016

Welcome back for a new edition of Pick-Ups!

Thank you for joining me. This week I’m going to tackle a few Blu-ray titles from 2015 that we’ve missed here at the site... and don’t worry, not all of it will be horror. I’ve actually got some good movies that were released last year for you to check out. I thought I’d also let you know that I’m working on a column that’s Lord of the Rings related. I’m not sure when I’ll have that up for you, but hopefully sometime soon.  [Read on here...]

We’ve got one new review for you today, then some more release news...

First up, Tim has checked in with his thoughts on Disney and Pixar’s Inside Out on Blu-ray (it’s also available on Blu-ray 3D and DVD). Do check it out.

In announcement news, Warner Home Video has confirmed the 3/1 Blu-ray and DVD release of Ryan Coogler’s Creed. Special features will include deleted scenes and 2 featurettes (Know the Past, Own the Future and Becoming Adonis). You can see the Blu-ray cover artwork below.  [Read on here…]

Meanwhile today, the big release news is that Disney and Pixar have officially set Inside Out for Blu-ray 3D Combo and Blu-ray Combo release on 11/3, with the digital release set for 10/13. The Blu-ray will include the exclusive Riley’s First Date? animated short film, as well as the LAVA theatrical short film. Other extras will include 7 featurettes (Story of the Story, Paths to Pixar: The Women of Inside Out, Mixed Emotions, Mapping the Mind, Our Dads, the Filmmakers, Into the Unknown: The Sound of Inside Out, and The Misunderstood Art of Animation Film Editing), 4 deleted scenes (Riley Grows Up, Joy’s Decline, Misdirection, and Construction), audio commentary with directors Pete Docter and Ronnie del Carmen, and producer Jonas Rivera, the Mind Candy toolkit/interstitials montage, and trailers.  [Read on here…]

All right, we have a couple bits of news for you today but first this...

Go see Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation. Seriously, don’t even hesitate. I saw it last night up at the Chinese Theater and Hollywood, and it’s terrific. It’s one of the best spy action thrillers I’ve seen in a long time. Way better than Kingsman, slightly better than the last Mission: Impossible film (Ghost Protocol), and I think better even than some of the recent Bond films. The action, pacing and suspense are all excellent and very old school, there’s good moments of humor, the villain is great, the female lead is great. It’s just a damn fine time at the movies. You’ll really enjoy it, I think. [Read on here…]
