Apollo 11 4K is coming to the UK (and probably to the States too, eventually), plus Wizard of Oz 4K
We’ve got a little bit of news for you today, as well as some new Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD reviews...
First, I’ve just posted a review of Jon Favreau’s original Iron Man in 4K Ultra HD, from Marvel (distributed by Paramount and now Disney). For you guys, I bit the bullet and picked up a copy myself. The new Atmos mix is pretty great, but the 4K image quality is a bit disappointing. Click here for the details. The title streets today.
And Tim has just posted his thoughts on Gordon Hessler’s Scream and Scream Again from Kino Lorber Studio Classics, as well as Riccardo Freda’s Double Face from Arrow Video, both on regular Blu-ray. [Read on here...]

Sony sets Guillermo del Toro’s original Hellboy for release on 4K on 10/15
All right, a quick update today...
First, we’ve just posted a trio of new Blu-ray reviews, including my thoughts on Dome Karukoski’s Tolkien from Fox, Tim’s take on Leszek Burzynski’s Trapped Alive from Arrow Video, and Dennis’ look at Michael Chaves’ The Curse of La Llorona from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.
And I’m just finishing a review of Zhang Yimou’s Shadow in 4K Ultra HD from Well Go USA and should have that up before the end of the day.
Speaking of reviews, several of you have asked if we’re going to cover the new Disney and Marvel MCU titles that street tomorrow in 4K, including Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Iron Man 3, Thor, and Thor: The Dark World. We would love to, but unfortunately Disney isn’t making them available to reviewers, which means we’d have to go out and buy them. That puts indie sites like The Bits in a pickle. So the answer is, I don’t know. Maybe. [Read on here...]

A big 4K update with Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy, Toy Story, Wizard of Oz & more, plus They Shall Not Grow Old on BD
All right, I’m back on Facebook finally and things seem to be settling back to some kind of normal. So today’s post is going to have a lot of 4K news, with a bit of Blu-ray too, and then we’ll have a big Blu-ray catch up post tomorrow...
First though, we’ve got a couple more new Blu-ray reviews for you: Tim has taken a look at Scared Stiff from Arrow Video, while Dennis has offered his thoughts on The Man Who Haunted Himself (1970) from Kino Lorber Studio Classics. Enjoy!
Now then, we have a bunch of great 4K Ultra HD release news for you, starting with confirmation that Guillermo del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth is officially coming to the format from Warner and New Line in July. We don’t yet have a street date, but it’s already up for pre-order here on Amazon (you can see the cover artwork at left and also below). And I must say, of all the titles that could benefit from 4K, wide color gamut, and HDR, this is near the top of the list! Of course, we’ll post more details when they’re officially announced. Green Book delay, Hellboy double feature, Carpenter 4K, Don Quixote, Romero & looking back at Quantum of Solace
Afternoon, all. We’ve got a couple interesting items for you today...
First, Tim has posted a new review of Powerhouse Films and Indicator’s outstanding William Castle at Columbia: Volume Two Blu-ray box set, which streeted late last month and includes Zotz!, The Old Dark House, 13 Frightened Girls!, and Strait-Jacket. Do check it out and if you haven’t seen these films, they’re a hoot.
Also today, we have a new History, Legacy & Showmanship column from our own Michael Coate featuring a look back at the James Bond film Quantum of Solace in honor of its 10th anniversary. The column features another terrific roundtable discussion, this time with historians Robert A. Caplen, John Cork, and Lisa Funnell. Enjoy!
And we’ve also posted the weekly update of the Release Dates & Artwork section with all the latest Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD cover artwork and Amazon.com pre-order links. As always, whenever you order literally anything from Amazon after clicking through one of our links, you’re helping to support our work here at The Bits and we greatly appreciate it. We’ve got a bunch of new Blu-ray Disc and DVD reviews for you to start the day off right, including Tim’s look at The Princess Bride from Criterion and Night of the Demons (in Steelbook packaging) from Scream Factory, Dennis’ review of Paddington 2 from Warner and Television’s Lost Classics: Volume Two from VCI Entertainment, and David’s take on Goldstone from Lightyear Entertainment and Arizona Raiders (on DVD only) from Umbrella Entertainment. In announcement news today, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has officially set the CG-animated Smallfoot for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 12/11, with the Digital release expected on 12/4. Extras will feature sing-alongs, a featurette, music videos, and the Super Soozie mini-movie. Amazon is still taking pre-orders on a 4K Ultra HD release for this title, but one wasn’t mentioned in the press release. We’ve asked the studio to clarify and will post an update here when they do.
