We’ve got a trio of new disc reviews to round out the week today, including...

My thoughts on David Anspaugh’s Rudy (1993) which streets in 4K Ultra HD from Sony next Tuesday (11/14), featuring not only the original Theatrical Version but also a new Director’s Cut that’s 13 minutes longer.

Stephen’s take on Chuck Russell’s 1988 remake of The Blob in 4K UHD from Shout! and Scream Factory.

And Dennis’ take on Ron Winston’s The Gamblers (1970) on Blu-ray from VCI Entertainment.

More reviews are on the way, including my own look at Billy Wilder’s Stalag 17 (1953) in 4K from Kino Lorber Studio Classics. So be sure to watch for those soon.

Also today, over on our Patreon we’ve kicked off an in-depth poll asking our supporters what video, audio, special features, and packaging options 4K Ultra HD fans value most on their catalog titles on the format. The poll will remain open until next Friday (11/17) at Noon Pacific, so if you sign up as a supporter between now and then, you can weigh in with your picks. And we’ll share the results here on the website.

We’re going to run these kind of polls regularly on Patreon, both for our own edification and also to provide that information to studio sources who might ask for it, so this is a great chance to make your opinions heard. [Read on here...]

In announcement news today, our friend Eric Wilkinson has announced that the MVD Rewind Collection is getting ready to release Hardware Wars on Blu-ray on 2/20/24. This is, of course, Ernie Fosselius’ iconic 1978 parody of Star Wars that became legendary in the early annals of pop culture history. Extras are TBA, but here’s what the cover is going to look like (click on the image to pre-order it on Amazon.com)...

Hardware Wars (Blu-ray Disc)

Kino Lorber Studio Classics has announced five new Blu-ray titles including Jacques Deray’s The Outside Man (1972), Douglas Sirk’s Has Anybody Seen My Gal (1952), Norman Panama’s The Road to Hong Kong (1962), Joseph Sargent’s To Hell with Heroes (1968), and Ted Kotcheff’s Split Image (1962). Look for all of those to street on 1/9.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has set Spike Lee’s School Daze (1988) for 4K Ultra HD release on 12/12. You can see the cover artwork below.

CBS and Paramount will release Special Ops: Lioness – Season One on Blu-ray and DVD on 1/23/24. That cover art is visible below as well.

Universal’s Five Nights at Freddy’s (2023) is now available for pre-order on Amazon in Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD formats (click here for the link). The street date is currently listed as 7/1/24, which is obviously a placeholder.

So too is Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty: The Complete Seventh Season on Blu-ray and DVD (click here for the link). Street date is also TBA.

Universal’s Love Actually 4K release is now available for pre-order as well, you’ll find the link on the cover art below.

For those of you looking for a better pre-order price on Paramount’s Titanic: 4K Collector’s Edition box set (which streets on 12/5), it’s now listed on Amazon at $134.99 (regularly $153.99). Click on the image below to visit the Amazon page (and don’t forget that the regular 4K version is also available and we’ve included that cover art below)...

Titanic: Limited Collector's Edition (4K Ultra HD)

In other news, the Hollywood Reporter has posted a good piece speculating that physical media (Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K) could see a resurgence not unlike that we’ve recently seen for CD and Vinyl LPs. That’s worth a read here.

And last week, I participated in a YouTube live stream about physical media with our friends over at Midnight’s Edge, including Tom Connors Jr. and Greg “Fanzcene”. You can watch that live right here...

By the way, that Facebook live stream I mentioned yesterday (with The Screening Room AV) will be available for viewing on YouTube soon as well, so I’ll share that link here at The Bits on Monday.

And that’s all for today! We’ll leave you with a look at the cover artwork for several of the titles mentioned above, with Amazon pre-order links if available...

School Daze (4K Ultra HD) Hardware Wars (Blu-ray Disc) Love Actually (4K Ultra HD)

Titanic (4K Ultra HD) The Fugitive (4K Ultra HD) Special Ops: Lioness - Season One (Blu-ray Disc)

Have a great weekend, everyone!
