We’ve got TWO more Blu-ray reviews for you today before we call it a week: Tim’s thoughts on Paramount’s new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and my own look at Warner’s fine (but also frustrating) Stanley Kubrick: The Masterpiece Collection box set. Do give them a read.

In announcement news today, Microsoft Studios is apparently planning to release the live action/CG hybrid film Halo: Nightfall on Blu-ray on 3/17.

Cohen Media Group has set The Liberator for Blu-ray on 3/10.  [Read on here…]

All right, we have a very quick post for you today, as there’s very little news to report (other than all of this Sony Picture hacking business, which is being reported everywhere today) and we’re working hard on those Blu-ray reviews.

Speaking of which, our own Shane Buettner has checked in with his thoughts on a pair of Robert Altman catalog films newly available on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber – Thieves Like Us and The Long Goodbye.  [Read on here…]

We’re kicking off the day here at The Bits with a pair of new Blu-ray reviews from yours truly.

First up is a look at FUNimation’s brand new Cowboy Bebop: The Complete Series release – the standard edition on Blu-ray. If you’re a fan of the series, picking this one up is a no-brainer. Not only is it one of the best anime of all time, FUNimation’s new release features best-available A/V quality, nearly all the extras from the previous DVD editions, and some new bonus content too.

The second review is something pretty cool: A few of you may recall that, in my review of Warner’s Batman: The Complete Series – Limited Edition, I mentioned a great documentary on actor Adam West that’s as good or better than anything included in Warner’s BD box set. I’m happy to say that this documentary – James E. Tooley’s Starring Adam West – is finally available for purchase on its own on both Blu-ray and DVD (here at this website) and I’ve had the chance to review it here. If you’re a fan of classic TV Batman, it’s well worth a look.  [Read on here…]

Today’s update is going to be relatively quick, because I’m trying to spend as much time as I can reviewing this week. There are a few new Blu-ray reviews that I really want to get posted over the next few days, but it takes time to go through them all.  [Read on here…]

We’re kicking the week off with a new Blu-ray review. This one is my look at Network’s new Space: 1999 – The Bringers of Wonder: Special Edition teaser disc, designed to promote the late 2015 release of Space: 1999 – Season Two. Keep in mind when reading the review that it’s a Region B disc. But if you’re a fan of Space: 1999, the review (and the disc if you have an all-region player) is worth a look.  [Read on here…]

Today’s update here at The Bits is going to be quick one, as we’re working on a bunch of big new Blu-ray reviews that we’re trying to get posted over the next week or so.

Speaking of which, I’ve posted my thoughts on James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy, as newly released on Blu-ray 3D this week from Disney. It’s a fun film – much better than it really has any right to be – so I’d definitely recommend that you all give it a look. Check my review for all the details.  [Read on here…]

Our own Tim Salmons kicks things off here at The Bits today by sharing his thoughts on a new classic Blu-ray release from Kino Lorber – Richard Brooks’ Elmer Gantry (1960).

Also today, Michael Coate celebrates the 35th anniversary of Robert Wise’s Star Trek: The Motion Picture in his History, Legacy & Showmanship column with an interview with film historian Preston Neal Jones, author of the new book Return to Tomorrow: The Filming of Star Trek: The Motion Picture – An Oral History of the Legendary Production Documented as It Happened. You’ll enjoy both the interview and the book, so be sure to give the column a look.  [Read on here…]

We’re kicking things off here today at The Bits with a trio of Blu-ray reviews. First up is Tim’s take on Kino’s new BD release of John Huston’s western The Unforgiven from 1960. Also, I’ve posted a pair of Blu-ray reviews from the original Bits website, featuring my take on MGM’s Rocky: The Undisputed Collection from 2009, which contains Rocky I-V and Rocky Balboa, and Fox’s landmark Alien Anthology Blu-ray set from 2010, featuring multiple remastered versions of Alien, Aliens, Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection, plus a truly massive amount of special edition extras – truly one of the best film franchise box sets ever released on Blu-ray.  [Read on here…]

All right, the big new today is something you’ve no doubt already heard: Bond 24 begins shooting on Monday and it will officially be called SPECTRE. Very nice choice. The cast is also going to include Christoph Waltz, Andrew Scott, Monica Bellucci, and Dave Batista. You can watch a replay of the official announcement video here.  [Read on here…]
