Review

Paramount Pictures Home Entertainment has released all five films in the Jack Ryan franchise, based upon the characters and novels of Tom Clancy, on 4K Ultra HD. Each film is included in the 10-disc set on new UHD discs, along with the original Blu-rays and Digital Copies.

At the time of this review here in the States, Paramount has released these films on 4K Ultra HD only in the Jack Ryan 5-Film Collection box set, though it’s likely they will be released as single-film SKUs at a later date (and they’re already available that way internationally). For this reason, we’ve reviewed each title individually.

For our thoughts on the films, the 4K audio and video quality, and the disc features, please check the review links below…

The Hunt for Red October (1990)

Patriot Games (1992)

Clear and Present Danger (1994)

The Sum of All Fears (2002)

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (2014)

In general, the first four films are native 4K film scans, while the most recent film is upsampled from a 2K Digital Intermediate. Audio is available in the same formats that were included on the original Blu-rays. There are no new extras, but all of the previous DVD and Blu-ray extras carry over for each film.

The Jack Ryan 5-Film Collection is a solid 4K Ultra HD box set release, presenting this great spy-thriller film series in the best available quality to date. It’s definitely recommended for fans and John McTiernan’s The Hunt for Red October in particular is very highly recommended for anyone who might be interested.
