When Harry Met Sally, I Am Paul Walker, 8K broadcasting in Japan, Amazon anime sale today & more

We’re starting things off today with a quick heads-up: Amazon is having a sale on select anime titles on Blu-ray and DVD today, and the titles include Cowboy Bebop: The Complete Series and Space Battleship Yamato. Worth checking out if you’re interested and the link is here.

In announcement news today, Shout! Factory has just announced the 1/8 Blu-ray release of their When Harry Met Sally...: Collector’s Edition as part of their Shout Select line-up. The film is mastered from a new 4K scan. Extras will include all the legacy special features, along with the new Scenes from a Friendship interview featurette with Rob Reiner and Billy Crystal. Cinedigm is releasing River Runs Red on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on 12/11. The film stars George Lopez and Taye Diggs. Audio is DTS-HD MA on Blu-ray and 4K.

RLJE Films will release the horror/thriller Monster Party on Blu-ray and DVD on 12/18.

Lionsgate has set Hell Fest for release on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on 1/8, with the Digital release due on 12/21. The 4K will include Dolby Vision HDR and DTS:X audio.

Virgil Films has released a the documentary I Am Paul Walker on VOD. It became available on 11/30, which was the anniversary of the actor’s tragic death. A DVD release will be available tomorrow.

And for Jane Fonda (or workout) fans, you’ll be pleased to learn that Lightyear Entertainment is releasing two more of her classic VHS workout series, Lean Routine and Lower Body Solution, on DVD on 12/18 via MVD Distribution. Rev up yer Shake Weights and dust off the Steppers.

In other news today, Marvel is releasing a new Captain Marvel trailer tonight during Monday Night Football. Rest assured, it will be everywhere online too. And word is still that the first Avengers 4 trailer (or at least the title) may break this week. But don’t hold your breath.

And finally today, NHK in Japan has just launched a new 8K Super Hi-Vision channel with an 8K broadcast of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Personally, I’ll be stunned if consumer 8K becomes widespread or anything more than an occasional curiosity, but I suppose display manufacturers are going to be looking for the next big thing sometime.
